John Stevenson
« on: October 21, 2017, 03:32:35 AM »
Many forum members will have known John Stevenson through this and other forums - personally I've been in contact with him for decades right back to the days when Newsgroups were the means of communication between like minded individuals.

Sadly John is not at all well, and rather than duplicate all the details can I refer you all to this thread by Ketan Swali of ArcEurotrade where the known facts are revealed:

http://www.model-engineer.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=131147

I'm sure that you will join with me in wishing John and his family the very best in these difficult times.

Sad to hear that John is having serious health problems.

It's difficult though as John wanted to keep it private.

I was last in touch with John when he was on the mend, so very sad to hear things have slid sideways.  Much respect to John for his influence on me and many others in engineering.

Enjoyed his company and comments at Harrogate and Doncaster. Hope he recovers quickly now he’s under the thumb of the delightful debs.
Always good for an opinion and advice, take your time to recover fully before wading in again mate.

Yes, that is sad news indeed.

One thing I remember with affection is John writing here that he had despatched a parcel to Andrew labelled 'Please throw underarm'!

I hope, for Debs' sake, that John hasn't left her a workshop as cluttered and untidy as mine - I really MUST have a tidy-up!
Best regards,

Pete W.

Not the news I ever wanted to hear.  I am so glad I got the chance to know John in person.   Debs and family, I feel awful for your loss.  Johns legacy is many of us and the inspiration he inspired, I will be raising a glass to you tonight...

Joules.  RIP, my friend John Stevenson

Not the news I ever wanted to hear.

Likewise, certainly not so soon after hearing that he was ill with some virus......

I first met John at one of the Harrogate shows, he ordered a pb bush for and took it to the show for me to collect, just one of his traits as a generous  individual who would help anyone....

Condolences to those he leaves behind.

RIP John..... :(

He was the best of us, A man who had something to teach, and taught it in a brass tacks fashion. Some of the repairs he put on here and other forums just made me gasp at his ability and confidence. He will be missed as Engineer and as a great man amongst us. I was saddened last night, and this news has saddened me even more. Rest in Peace John.

I am reminded of the last line in The Eagles Hotel California - "You can check out any time you like but you can never leave."
We have lost a real character.

I never met him "in the flesh", but frequently over the net, always clear and down to earth. He will be missed here.

Sadly, Matthew

John was a real hero-figure to me and a great inspiration. I shall miss his cranky humour and can-do approach to everything.

I bet he's already re-designed the pearly gates to automatically shut out the French :D

Rest well in peace John. The world is less of a place for not having you in it.

My knowledge of John is purely this forum.  Another loss that adds up...  I can go on, but only in ignorance of the overall.

I read the sad news yesterday, on my way from the dentist... I never met John, but read his postings here and on other forums, and he always came through as a no-nonsense, honest guy... Here's to you, Sir John! My deepest condolences to the family, we are quite a few all over the world that share your loss!

Truly a sad piece of news, John was a great source of help and assistance for many, and his forum posts usually reflected a great sense of humour. Surely he will be missed here, but most importantly he will be missed by those who knew him "in-the-flesh".

Condolences to his family and friends, may they find comfort in their memories of a well-respected and kind man who helped so many.

Such sad news.......

I only met John the once. At Harrogate. Though, we had had corresponded several times, via pm and Paypal.

Despite his, "reputation", I found him to be a Gentleman, during all our dealings.

May he rest in peace.......
