Fred Dibnah - tools and equipment being sold off

(1/3) > >>

awemawson:
For those that didn't know the late Fred Dibnah he was a very down to earth, though rather eccentric Steeple Jack who lived in Bolton in Lancashire. He came to fame by demolishing 'Mill Chimneys'  using a very low tech non explosive method, and ended up having a TV series featuring him.

His house in Bolton was almost completely re-built by him in his own unique style and in the garden was an extensive steam powered workshop, mainly line shaft driven.

He even dug a mine in his back garden.

. . . sad end to an era

John Rudd:
A very sad ending to a famous person's existance.....having to sell off his belongings....I would have thought his sons would have had first dibs ( no pun.....)

My father has already asked me if there are any tools I want from his collection......

Jo:
The most interesting thing I could see was this "Beam Engine" https://www.i-bidder.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/adampartridge/catalogue-id-adam-p10145/lot-a3e9d53c-6660-4f2f-82a4-a89700ba9f51

Clearly the Auctioneers neither watched Fred's shows  :wack: or are experienced in selling this sort of stuff: Calling it a Beam engine  :bang:

Jo

awemawson:
Oh yes - drills and reamers described by length  :bang:

fcheslop:
A sad end to a long running sad tale
Maybe a wake up call for those with loads of stuff squirrelled away or junk as our lass calls it
