A word of warning "Privacy Center" virus program
« on: May 25, 2009, 05:17:50 PM »
There is a program out there called "Privacy Center"

basically a virus, Trojan, spyware etc program. free download trial program, the usual

Except, all runs fine during the trial period, does it's job, BUT when the trial finishes it suddenly does a check on start up, tells you you have hundreds of viruses (about 250) and they are all related to porn.

It flashes this porn message all over your screen and disables any way out except by paying them to upgrade your subscription. It locks to whole computer to that point in time not letting windows load.

Now way out, it's a complete re-install job. I managed to boot into safe mode and it's still there.... :bang:

Only way I could get around it was to boot to a dos command prompt, manually start explorer in dos, lots of fiddling around, finally got "control panel" going and deleted the program.

AGV antivirus tells me I have no viruses etc present, even with the latest update.

This one is a bugger, I almost lost my computer setup thus needing a re-install and it's taken me several hours to get into windows to deal with it as it hides itself pretty well.

Don't download this one chaps....
You will find it a distinct help… if you know and look as if you know what you are doing. (IRS training manual)
