Searching for a UK patent around 1986-1989
« on: August 01, 2018, 05:08:51 AM »
In the quest to try and find ANY sketch or drawing of the internals of the Beaver CNC tool turret it occurred to me that Balding Engineering (makers of Beaver Tools) might well have filed a patent with at least some of the internal details. They were working on the Turret from about 1986-1989.

There are online facilities to search for old UK patents up to 1899 and for more recent ones that are post 2008 but of course this falls well into the gap between these dates  :bang:

Does anyone have any experience searching for UK patents from this era ?

Beaver Turning Centres Ltd filed a patent application for a Turret Assembly on 24/11/88, however status is Terminated before grant, and I can't find any documentation for it. Summary details are at https://www.ipo.gov.uk/p-ipsum/Case/PublicationNumber/GB2212753

And I've just realised, if you follow the link to Espacenet, and click the header/patent name, it takes you to the patent details -
https://worldwide.espacenet.com/publicationDetails/biblio?DB=EPODOC&II=0&ND=3&adjacent=true&FT=D&date=19890802&CC=GB&NR=2212753A&KC=A

  Wow Moray what can I say, excellent, you found it

Now not only do I have a cross sectional drawing, I've got the name of the inventor. I'll see if I can track him down, he might still be in the land of the living.

Only reason I put the effort in, is I wanted to see how the turret works!
I still can't quite figure it out, as I've had blocked sinuses and a bit of headache this week, so anything involving too much thinking (aka trying to interpret a Patent!) is a bit beyond current brain power.

I'll go and post on your other thread to ask a couple probably stupid questions about the inner workings.

I find Google Patents search very effective: https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/cf/0e/b9/c65d4be32b0cab/GB2212753A.pdf

Looks like a fascinating tool
