Electronic z height set tool
« on: September 12, 2018, 09:06:35 PM »
I've been wanting an electronic  z height set tool for awhile but the ones I seen were all 2 inch high I wanted a 1 inch height so I made my own today. I'm happy with the way it turned out. Kind of made it up as I went along so I didn't take any video but did take some pics after the fact.

Nice Doc!

Don't make the mistake that I did with mine, and forget that diamond doesn't conduct. I wiped out a nice diamond drag engraver tip by over travel.

How does it set the height?  CNC or manual mill?

Hi George,

Is the top spring loaded or solid?

The one I made for my CNC has 2mm overtravel.

The top is spring loaded is will work on manual mill or NC. I usually write my programs for my NC with a home zero position of 1. This will save me a step of touching off and moving up 1.0 and zeroing. That is one the reasons I wanted a 1.0 not a 2.0.

I don't have any diamond tooling but if I do end up with some I'll keep that in mind thanks for the tip I guess I would have done the same thing.

Here is a link to a video of the break down of the tool for those that look at videos.
