Building a model drag saw
« on: September 20, 2018, 06:23:57 PM »
I have spent the last month designing and building a model drag saw. This type of saw was the fore-runner of the chainsaw, and some were powered by hit and miss engines, some were powered by two cycle engines, and some were belt driven by steam engines. There seemed to be two main types, one type having a set of parallelogram arms (as I have done) and a second style using a set of saw guides and an eccentric hub. Mine is driven by the Philip Duclos "Odds and Ends" hit and miss engine which I made a few years ago. For reference sake, the log being sawn is 3" diameter spruce and the saw blade is 11 1/4" long. I sell a complete set of plans for this drag saw for $25 Canadian funds, but that does not include the hit and miss engine.---Brian Rupnow
