Face mill Cutter Indexable advice

(1/2) > >>

Buell:
I have a Sieg sx2  Mill and was Thinking about an Index head face cutter Now its an R8 fitting and have found a 50mm version I think its Like a Shell mill possibly, but don't quote me ! Now heres the thing..I just would like to skim pass Steel and ali etc. to clean up and make faces square and presentable....so its 50mm diameter is that tooo big for this mill and abilities or is it just super slow and min depth cut ?

chipenter:
Those index inserts can go pretty quick and not sustain damage , for finishing they are hard to beat if the tramming  is good .

Buell:
Im more concerned with the size if it can handle a 50m cutter in any shape or form ? anyone got one fitted to a small mill ?

velocette:
Hi Buell
My X2 Mill has a 1.25 hp motor and belt drive fitted and drives a 50 mm facing cutter with HSS inserts quite well with light cuts.
One improvement that helps no end with a Facing Cutter is to fit an AMP Meter to the power leads. Adjust the depth cut to read less than the motor power.
Photos of Facing Cutter and setup jig fitted with the lock bolt removed.

Can you show a few pictures of how the AMP Meter is set up?
