Kennedy Hexacut 60 power hacksaw
« on: February 03, 2019, 05:32:31 AM »
Hi I have a Kennedy Hexacut 60 power hacksaw I find it a good stablemate to my larger Rapidor. I should like to spruce the Hexacut up a bit, what I require is a replacement bellows for the damper.
I doubt you can buy them anymore, any old stock probably perished, has anybody done any modification or got any helpful ideas

Not the best picture but it shows the offending bellows riding up as they do,

I'd go visit your local old time car parts store with the bellows in hand.
Mcmaster has a wide selection too.

I'm fairly sure I used one off a clutch or brake master cylinder.  I needed to make a disc which the rod and adjusting screw went through.  I thought I even had a spare but I just checked and it's too large.

It might be worth hunting online for a Girling catalogue.

Thanks for that a picture of yours fitted would be helpful please, just trying to source a new belt, thinking of ribbed belt running inside out, thing is one size is too long, the next available size is way too small

I modified mine to use a poly-v belt - no more slippage or the belt climbing off.

Hi you say modified, I assume 2 new pulleys? What size belt did you use please? Is the mod on here?

I modified the large pulley. Just machined a flat and then added 4 or 5 grooves for a J section belt. I can't remember if I found a small pulley or made one.

I got rid of the saw about 15 years ago when I acquired a Clarke bandsaw for free.

Before I modified it it was more or less unusable.

OK. Here's a picture.  You may be able to see the white disc that the damper rod and adjusting screw go through.   I did that to give something for the gaiter to seal on at the top end.   As I recall there is a rib on the disc to fit a groove in the gaiter.

You may be able to see that mine is the model that came without a motor.  It originally had a V belt pulley and when I acquired it there was an enormously heavy gearmotor.  I wanted to change that as there's no point in such a small saw that I couldn't pick up. I couldn't get sufficient reduction from an ordinary induction motor with V belts so I have gone for a poly V belt drive with two new pulleys.

Thanks for that, I have ordered a toothed timing belt which hopefully I will run inside out, If that fails I will roll my sleeves up and machine some Serpentine pulleys, regarding the gator a trip to the local motor factors or the autoumble is in order
