Oh NOooooooo!!
« on: June 13, 2009, 04:02:24 AM »
We all have those times..... When it feels like we`re wading through treacle.......  ::)

Just can`t get the important hobby work underway........ A little more house/ home/ garden, etc work to finish.

After some mods, we had a posh new lounge carpet fitted yesterday! Herself is delighted.......   :D

Finished tidying/ cleaning/ replacing etc....... The way to the workshop`s clear! WHOOPEEeee!!!!!!!  :ddb: :ddb:

BUMP!

Rattle....... Aaaawwwwww!!!! From the bathroom......

Herself has knocked the shower curtain rail down, & holed the bath!  :bugeye:

Guess we need a new suite now.........  ::)

Oh BUGGA!  :bang: :bang: :bang:

Good luck, I beginning to know the feeling. As the wife has been terminated from her auto supply job and now will be home with 24/7. I guess it will soon be time to come out of retirement and get a job.

It always makes me laff, about the way she says "well I think I will do or redo this or that in such and such room" Of course what she really means is You will be doing this and this and that.   :bang:

All sorted (for now), by teatime....

I filled the hole with 4 layers of this resin glue.
Much cheaper & quicker than Araldite Rapid. It sets in 3mins......  :bugeye:

Sharpened my deburring scrapers.

And scraped to profile, like car bodywork.

Stuck a 6" run of this tape over it to ensure no drips if it cracks again.

Job done!

The lady had her shower 1/2hr later, and I`m booked to fit a new suite "next springtime"...... Sigh......

Nearest hills to me are the North Yorkshire moors....given my current physical disposition I'd never make it.... :)

Sorry to hear that spring has sprung early.

At least it probably will be more comfortable temperature wise than if you had done this when disaster happened. What ever happened to good old metal bathtubs? If you dropped something in them you just chipped the porcelain, not punched a hole in it.  :D :D
We will of course expect a full "How to redo you Bath" tutorial complete with  :worthless:.

Well, Don...... Just for you!

I couldn`t delay any longer..... Mrs. D was getting agitated. (You all know the signs).  ::)

How to remove a bath which is the same length as the bathroom, and tiled in from above?

Saw it out!

And take it away!

Lots of elbow room, for replumbing purposes.

Paid special attention to the lower left 3/4" to 22mm connection, with it`s special adaptor olive.

The new bath is more than 1" longer than the bathroom, between it`s tiled ends.

So, I mentioned making a slot in the wall......

You should have seen Mrs D`s eyes, when I told her, we could lean out of the window to turn the taps!  :D

Here`s the slot........

Two horizontal battens, supporting the rear deck section.

The bath dropped into place with 2mm to spare. Then was slid into position under the tiles at the tap end.

Support the 2 front corners, to hold the top deck horizontal. Then 6, wooden 3"x3" blocks. Milled to precise length (height) to support the base.
Also 1 strut to support the front of the deck.

Then stick all 3 sides to the walls with silicone sealer........

Why, after all that, does the furthest, lowest, most awkward joint start weeping?  :bang:

And, while you`re struggling, why do all the other joints come out in sympathy??  :bang: :bang:

Also, after 10 days, the "cardboard" flexi tail washers started weeping! Which also showed the taps were moving in the bath deck......  :bang: :bang: :bang:

Refitted taps with a gasket/ washer under, & fitted red fibre washers to the tails.

Nice finishing touch, with plastic quadrant strip bedded in silicone sealer.

The next 2 components were less of a problem.

All done!  :D

Finished tidying/ cleaning/ replacing etc....... The way to the workshop`s clear! WHOOPEEeee!!!!!!!    :ddb: :ddb:

(Haven`t we been here before?)

David

You have done an amazing job on the bathroom renovation. Replacing the tub without having to replace the tiling or at least a couple of rows along the bottom is unheard of. Putting a tub 2" longer than the space provided is impossible except for people with the MadModder gene. :) :ddb: :ddb:
I believe that Mrs. David should give you time off until at least next year for service above and beyond that required of normal husbands.

Thanks for posting that David as I am sure that you have given anyone that might run into a similar situation an idea of how to go about it.

Cheers
