An Ill Wind 2

I have just been reading the other post of the same name, nice one on the RT, I find if you are fair with suppliers, they do tend to throw in a few sweeteners.

But getting to Glens hard luck story.

I will tell you mine, but it doesn't start until thursday.

Normally in this country, with the national health service, the wait for certain treatments can take years, I'm sure they are hoping that you will cure yourself in the meantime.
I had a phone call this week, come for an MRI scan this thursday evening, things are looking up, it was only booked about four weeks ago. I just pity the poor operator, because of my medications, I suffer chronic flatulence, and being unable to move, it will just have to come out, no holding back. First bit of good news.

Anyway the saga continues. First thing on Friday morning I have to see the doc, and I am expecting him to allow me back into the shop, so I can work on my machines.

So that is really two good bits of news in just two days. Can it continue?

On Saturday, my German friend who I haven't seen since just after I arranged their marriage in the UK, and has been living in Moscow for about the last seven years has decided to fly in from Nice, where he is attending a seminar with his Russian wife, who is an emminent doctor and an international speaker, specialising on childrens dietry problems and needs.

She is going back to Moscow, he is coming to stay with us, FOR AT LEAST SIX WEEKS, maybe longer. He wants to arrange for an operation over here, plus set it all up so he can move over here permanently, without his wife!! I don't even think she knows yet.

We live in a small two bedroomed house with our grandson. So for sleeping the wife is moving in with the grandson on a put you up, I will be on the couch, while he gets our bedroom. We will have to see how it goes, and if it isn't working, he will be out of it into a B&B.

Bad news ALWAYS follows good.

So for anyone visiting, expect to meet a stranger. One good point, he speaks very good English, a lot better than my German.

Well John I can understand your dealing with the doctors and health care system. in being the medi-cab service for my parents. and spending a lot of time in testing facilities. And offices, But the second part of your story that is the bad part, man I guess I'm glad I don't have any real close friends and am an only child so no close relatives to move in for a stay  I wish you luck and hope it works well for you.

Peter,

I had an MRI scan a couple of years ago, so I know what to expect.

I did have a slight sensation in my left hand, so I suppose some microscopic particle of steel was in there somewhere. But I never found an exit wound.

Glen,

I have to extend my hospitality to my friend.

Before his first wife died of the demon drink, we stayed in his massive house on the outskirts of Frankfurt am Main. Having the whole top floor to ourselves like a penthouse flat, for many years. Twice a year, summer and Christmas they made us welcome in their home and we shared many happy times together. It was during those visits that our grandson (from the age of 4) started to pick up German like a second language.

So I am extending what we have to him, in repayment for all the happy times we had, plus he is a friend in need at this time.
He has a medical condition that just cannot be fixed the correct way if he stays in Russia, and it could easily become life threatening if he doesn't get western style treatment. So another job on the to do list, find a private surgeon to carry out the cutting (or non cutting in this case).

Dave,

I won't have any trouble, I only have one brain cell, so it has nothing to resonate against to cause any further damage.

For those that are interested, I had my scan last night, after waiting over an hour for them to repair it. The damned thing must have known I was on the way. It was the typical repair man's talk, "Oh, it's only a five minute job". Well after getting changed straight away into a gown, with my a**e hanging out in a public waiting room, and my pain relief patch taken off, after 45 mins I was getting restless and ready to tell them where to stick their scan. But after calming me down a bit, they shoehorned me into the awaiting hole. I have put on loads of weight over the last six months because of being so sedentary, another 7 pounds and I think they would have had to grease me up to get me in.  Now I know what sausage meat feels like when being piped into it's skin. But anyway, 15 minutes later, it was all over, just got to await the results now.

Early this morning I visited the doc for the results of my body fluid tests. He gave me the total all clear, everything spot on. This has been a very worrying time for me, as one of my main pain symptoms is similar to certain type of cancer, now that has been ruled out, he said that my problems are purely mechanical, which means they should be able to do something to alleviate the pain without being too intrusive (if they mean carving around your spine with an axe is non intrusive). Whether they will affect a permanent fix is under discussion awaiting results of the scan, but at least at the moment, even though I am limited to what I can do, I am in a much happier frame of mind, and even happier that he gave me the all clear to carry on machining in the shop. I think telling him I was going stir crazy had something to do with his decision.

My main problem now is my visitor, I think that is going to curtail my machining operations a little, but what the heck, anything is better than nothing.

A very happy Boglet, who can't wait to get the chips flying. I just might try a bit tomorrow, before my friend has to be picked up from the airport.

Many thanks gents for all the well wishes.

I have been very worried over the last few months, and doing a bit of posting, and receiving all your well wishes on here has really kept me together. Taking my mind away from my problem.

It is just like having a load of mates around you, you don't have time to feel sorry for yourself.

I know exactly what you mean Ralph, get more than a couple in my kitchen, and it looks like the crowd scene from Ben Hur. But as I say, the more, the merrier. If you can find a seat, you are welcome to stay and partake of a bit of refreshment (or in Ralph's case, choccies). At last count there are nine in the garden, three in the shop, and little would you believe it, up to five in the kitchen.
I can't remember how many people have met new friends in my little kitchen over all the years I have been running an open workshop, it must run into the hundreds, and many have gone away and kept in touch with each other. It gives me a warm glow to think that my time being a communal watering hole hasn't been wasted. Everyone needs friends, even the ones who think they don't.

Thanks again my friends.

John
