Darren, Was that because of the material you were cutting or the underlying noise of the machine?

Both could be heard from above, but you can't half make a mill squeal at times. Depends on what you are cutting and how it's held/damped....
You will find it a distinct help… if you know and look as if you know what you are doing. (IRS training manual)

You do not need great physical strength, just a few basic lifting, pulling type tools and some basic knowledge of how to use them.

The Egyptians built the Pyramids without the aid of fork lifts or giant cranes.

i've got a Sieg C4 with an X1 mill head.

been happy with it for 18 months, but the hassle in taking tools off (got front and back tool posts) pushed me into getting a new mill.

just got a VM3L from TMTT (they are on ebay) first impressions are that it is pretty good machine.

on the way back from picking it up i had the brian wave to make a bigger ( 250mm x 250mm) table out of some 16mm ally plate, i want to keep the X1 mill head on the lathe because with the powe cross slide i've got power feed on X and Y axis
if i'd thought it through, i'd have never tried it
