Me ... I'm just following Bogs around
« on: August 16, 2009, 01:49:53 PM »
Hi guys. As the heading says, I was lured here by Bogs and his excellent build/repair threads. It's rare to be able to learn from such a gifted teacher. Anyhow, enough of the adulation ... sorry John, that's yer lot!

As a neophyte in the model engineering field, I expect I can learn a lot from many members of this forum, and enjoy the company in the process  Hopefully, not to drive too mant members to distraction  :poke:

Hello Sailor!

I don't think anyone on here posts for the adulation, the joy of just sharing seems to be enough reward. But I am glad you have found your way across.
It isn't a model engineering site, even though it looks like it at times, but an area where you can discuss almost any project you want to (as long as it is legal). Even model boats are allowed, in fact, it would be nice for the members to see what actually goes into one, especially if it is steam powered.

I am sure the lads on here will be pleased as Punch if they can help you in any way.

Just join in if you want, show us what you are up to (knitting included), and don't forget, most of us can't read, so we need pics.

Sailor, welcome aboard. Nice pics, but where do you park the airplanes? Served on USS Midway and USS Intrpid both musems in opposite corners of the Colony. Maybe the next project will have a flight deck. :poke: :poke:

Sorry Cliff, she's a Brit interloper in US waters. Not sure any flyboy would like to try and park on that deck, for with an overall length of 300' and a beam of a mere 29'.5", together with a cluttered deck, she'd have been a mite tight for anything other than a kamikaze approach.

As for next project, only if they can be hauled aboard in the nets, 'cause it's going to be a steam trawler from the 30s

Nice looking ship you have there Sailor. Must be over 6 ft long.

You've done a good job of the 'dazzle' camouflage as well, a difficult job to get right at the best of times.

Now if we could just get a little peek inside, to show us all how these things work.

Maybe open a new thread, rather than clogging this one up, and then give us the full rundown.

You have got to remember Sailor, not a lot of the lads on here have seen or understand the inside (or even the outside) workings of a model such as this, and this would be a great opportunity to gain some brownie points for yourself, and get to know everyone when they bombard you with questions.

Pixresizer is a great free program for reducing the size of pictures.

Sorry to be so long getting back here. I had to make one of life's unexpected pit stops in the hospital for a week ... oh well, that's age creeping up I guess. So, let me see what I can dig out by way of photographs of the internal workings of these boats. First off the 'V & W destroyer ... yes Bogs, you're almost right ... 78" OAL with a beam of just 7 3/4" at the max

Well, it turns out that all of the interior shots of the boat were lost when my CPU crapped out, so I shall have to take some more ... bummer. Sorry guys that first shot will have to be a teaser until I get her off the shelf and opened up for photographing.  :dremel:

Hi Stew

Yea, that's a 'Stuart Triple Expansion', and yes I made it myself ... well, with a little assistance on the eccentrics, and a lot of assistance on the crankshaft (a professional did that bit for me)  :bugeye:
