Another V8 Engine
« on: August 20, 2009, 01:14:46 AM »
Hi All

While checking out another site tonight while the board was down I found a mini v8 engine.
Here is a link to the site.

Nice engine, I must go out and get me one of those four axis machining centres, plus a new house for me to fit it in, Oh! and I won't forget to pick up a new Bentley while I'm spending my loose change.

A very nice job by the way, and if he went into to production, that would be the way to go, but unfortunately, I wouldn't class it as home shop machining.

But he is only playing at it. Conley has been producing these sorts of engines for a few years now, and is classed as one of the best.

Isn't that where most of us are, just at different levels maybe......
You will find it a distinct help… if you know and look as if you know what you are doing. (IRS training manual)

The VF-1 mill is the same as the ones at the school I attend at night.  Notice the hole in the ceiling to accomodate the spindle  :coffee:  It still takes skill to program and operate these machines, just different skills than manual work.

A new VF-1 costs $46K, and I have seen used ones sell for as little as $10K.  The lathe retails for about $25K.  Certainly expensive, but there are lots of people who spend more on their hobbies.  Of course the tooling isn't cheap either.
