here's a picture of a nyd engine that a good friend of mine just finished restoring.
the engine was an awful mess when he got it but after several months of work this is what it looks like today .

i will try to get some video of it running around on steam.

Stew,

When I was a teenager and used to go to all the steam fairs without fail, I used to talk a lot to a chap that had built one. The only scale I've seen them in is 2" to the ft. Small but surprisingly powerful little engine. He let me drive it a few times, actually I still see some of the old faces around when I go to these things but not sure whether they'd remember me! He made a 3" scale fowler ploughing engine after that.

There's a guy in Scotland who is puting the finishing touches on one of these model tractors andd has run it under steam. this is some of the info he sent me.
THE DURHAM AND NORTH YORKSHIRE STEAM CULTIVATION CO. LTD. NORTH BRIDGE ENGINE WORKS. RIPON. It seems that they went bust in about 1885. The 2" scale model was designed by John Haining and published in the model Engineer magazine in 1978/79. I bought my plans etc from Blackgates Engineering. Dewsbury. Yorkshire.
I'll try to post some of his photos shortly and direct him to this group
