Foot pegs...
« on: August 28, 2009, 07:17:04 PM »
I have had my lathe since about March & done a little playing around with it to get a bit of practice. I am still very inexperienced & have little tooling but I certainly enjoy playing/learning.
Anyway I made some foot pegs for my neighbors motorcycle & thought I would share. He gave me free reign so I had him get some aluminum & some led lights & I went to work. He was very excited with the outcome, so I guess I am as well!
Basiclly I turned down the pegs & put some grooves in it. Then I bored out the center to accept the led lights & wiring. I capped the ends with some blue plastic circles I cut from an extra parts bin I had laying around. There are actually three seperate sized bores in the center getting increasingly larger in diameter as the extend from the back to the front. This way as I slid the light in from the front the light bottomed out at the small diameter where the wire goes so it cannot slide backward. Then the lens cap bottoms out at the end of the light so it cannot go backwards either. Probably made that clear as mud! Sorry!
Anyway I know my abilities are limited compared to what I have seen on this site, but we all have to learn at the beginning. I just wanted to contribute as I really enjoy this site & have learned a lot of useful information.
Btw, some of the pics make the pegs look sort of distorted but it is just the camera phone I was using.

Thanks,
Brian

Thanks everyone!
I made some turnsignals to match monday night, but wont bother posting them. The only thing cool about them is that they run parallel to the bike instead of perpendicular like the pegs. I fabbed brackets & drilled/tapped the turnsignals to mount them. Also used the orange lenses instead of blue since these are turn signals.
Thanks for the words of encouragement!
Thanks,
Brian
