indexable soft jaws, any ideas??
« on: September 21, 2009, 01:27:55 PM »
just bought a new 125mm chuck. i bought a set of soft jaws for it, but i'm going to turn them into "master" jaws for indexable soft jaw tops.

i've used a few diferrent types at work, but i'm thinking of doing some simple ones to use at home.

i've been using some on my old chuck that bolted down with countersunk screws to locate them, some just ran one screw in a disc. these worked ok(ish), but didn't repeat when put back on.

i'm thinking of milling a step in the middle of the master jaws (to locate in a slot on the indexable tops) and having one dowel in the master jaws, i should then be able to use both ends of the jaw tops.

has anyone else done some similar jaws??
if i'd thought it through, i'd have never tried it
