Home build dividing head.

A few years ago, I decided I wanted to try and cut some gears, for an idea I had, so, I needed a dividing head!

I already had a peatol lathe, and found plans for a div head by Tony Jeffrie.

At the time I had access to a mill at work, but since then the 'elf & safety police have locked down all the machine tools, so now I am buying one for myself.

So, off I set and ended up with what you see below, along with some gears I cut with 0.5 mod cutters.

Drilling those holes was  a real P I T A, and, marking out the protractor wasn't much better.

(Got the discs with my RT, still don't know how to use them! Bought Harold Halls book on dividing, no lights come on so far.
Maybe if I had to use them in anger .. not had need to yet.)

That's great work, boatmadman!

I've had dividing head on my todo-list for a long time, but that wormy thing has kept me away from it, as I'm not sure if I can make it properly. But someday..

Sorveltaja,

It is that wormy thing that is one of the easiest gear sets to make.

At a push you can get a length of trapezoid thread in the diameter you want, use one piece for the drive and another piece to make a cutter.

It is very well documented on the web.
