wasted day of shed time!
« on: October 22, 2009, 11:56:37 AM »
well yesterday was a wasted day in the shed :(

tried making a ball turner, i used PTFE as a bearing surface, but made a mistake on me centre height and ended up with the ability to turn a ball about .1" dia

i took loads of pictures and the camera has lost the pics too :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

these things happen

got me little hogger set this morning, so i'll have a play with that tomorrow and maybe even make some thing that works
if i'd thought it through, i'd have never tried it

You're just gonna have to make really, really tiny stuff for them to go on!

The worse day in the shop is better than the best day at work.

Jim

We all have those days once and a while. Now that you have had yours and got it behind you, look forward to the good days that are coming.

Cheers

No day in the shed is wasted!
You've just had a 'non-productive' day.

I have a little bit of unproductive time myself lately!
I started to turn down a bit of 1/2" to fit the 12mm bearings I bought for my toolpost grinder, I want a ridge left at one end so that meant turning down the entire length and getting acquainted with the travelling steady.

All went well really, too well and I took too much off!   :coffee:

Probably, while I am at the shop I should get some 8mm ones too!

Good practice, I am starting on another shaft and I will be more careful this time!  Problem is the difference between too tight and real sloppy seems to be really really, narrow.

In these situations, a gentle kiss from Mr Knurler to raise the surface a tiny bit sometimes fixes things on a "temporary" basis which actually lasts for years. Straight knurls work better than diagonal/diamond for this.

I've cut the end off it twice, but it's still too short
