Hello, from E. TN
« on: October 31, 2009, 07:54:31 AM »
Hello, from E. TN.
I am a computer tech by trade, amature machinist by hobby. I purchased a MicroMark 7x14 a couple of years ago, to use in making parts for fishing rods.
So far I've made more tools an such than fishing rods...
I have a few tools, lathe, bench grinder, drill press, old Atlas Bandsaw, and hand tools.
Looking forward to learning and sharing experiences. I'm also a member of the 7x12, Gingery, and several casting Special Interest Groups.
I live in E.TN, USA near the tri-cities area.

Hi there Chuck  Welcome to the club   :borg:

Let me be the first to say  :worthless:, we want to see your lathe and the tools you've made, plus anything else you are working on, we like piccy's here ( we may not all be literate, but we all speak the international language of pictures  )

I've posted some of my work on Photobucket:

I'm currently working on a ball type centerfinder. Bacically a long thin rod with a ball pivot that attaches to the tool post and aids in centering work on a faceplate or 4-jaw independant chuck.

"...we are looking forward to the story of the one that got away. "

As long as it's on a rod I built, on a fly I tied, it's all good!

Would like to add that I'm retired U.S.A.F, spent 8 years in the UK, went fishing in Canada with my Dad and Grandad as a boy... And no sequins in my shorts!

Welcome to the collective :borg:

There are quite a few of us techies here...

No when you say fishing, do you mean regular worm on a hook, trawling, surf casting etc..? Or the only 2 that I really like, fly and spear.

Eric

Though I have partaken in all you listed, plus Ice, Flyfishing for trout primarily, and flyfishing for anything else, secondary.

A note to the 'Over the Pond' group, I was stationed in the UK for 8 of my 22 years in the USAF, and even spent a few weeks in Austrailia for the Kangaroo 3 exercise. I liked the UK so much, I maried a native and brought her back with me some 20+ years ago. So the references to 'her indoors' are not wated on me!
