New Yorker Here
« on: February 25, 2010, 10:01:02 PM »
Hello, I'm Darren.

I live and work in Staten Island and Manhattan respectively.

I have a Microlux 7" x 14" mini-lathe I bought directly from the son of the company owner several years ago. (And I also have a mini-mill that needs to be fixed).

I'm an amateur inventor who has yet to build anything, so I really need to get back into the whole machine and tooling thing and at the moment I'm putting together a list of tools I still need to get. (Which is no easy task).  :coffee:

Hi Darren

Welcome to MadModder. It looks like you have two of the pieces needed to start building and a good base to start adding to with tooling. I think you will find that there is always one more piece of tooling that you want to add to the list. If you have any questions, feel free to ask as there is always someone around to answer or at least give an opinion.  :D :D

Cheers

Hi Darren, welcome to the collective from an Upstater (Rochester area).  :borg:

Sounds like a fun thing "inventing". Have fun collecting the tooling.

Many of us hear would love to give you a hand at finiding those tools. Of course when your spending somebody elses money, it's going to be real easy to do.  :ddb:

Hi Darren!

Welcome to the collective! :borg:

I work in midtown myself. Talk to me about tooling... being semi local we may be able to help each other out.

Welcome, Darren .

It's sure thing, that one has never too many tools. But when you start to make new tools with the tools you already have, be aware, as it's an endless list of 'side projects'.

Never consider a project that doesn't require the purchase or manufacture of new tools.

Thanks everyone.

I had been searching the internet for info on getting a 5C collet chuck and came across Herbies' blog: http://www.nyccnc.com/Herbie/HERBIES_BLOG/HERBIES_BLOG.html

That site in turn led me here.

Some of the top things I still need to get are:
1) Compound rest for use with my AXA tool post.
2) 4-Jaw 5" Lathe Chuck with Adapter.
3) Collet Chuck for my 5C Collets.
4) Follower Rest.
5) Steady Rest.
6) Draw Bar

Not to mention a lot of other things.

Anyway, thanks again. I'll be spending a lot of time perusing the forums to learn as much as I can.
