Taig sized ball turner
« on: March 15, 2010, 10:10:33 AM »
Hi all

Got hit with a little bit of  :proj:, need a ball turner for a number of upcoming things, so got busy and made one

milled out a bit of 6061 for the base, replicating the dovetail on the original Taig cross-slide

cleaned up a bit of round stock for the rotating bit, milled a dovetail slot for the tool holder; the little bump in the side of the slot is for a piece of teflon to ease the travel of the sliding bit

Here's all the parts

And here it is where it belongs

Cheers Joe

Joe,

I've had in mind to make one for my Sherline. You've given me some ideas as how I might go about it.

Very nice write up too, two items at once, great.

That's very nice

I have a peatol/taig under the bench.... Possibly soon under the hammer, but this would be nice to make for it first.... Might clinch the sale?

Have you got the super new ball bearing crossslide screw? Got one fro a show last year, very smooth  :)

Now that's just showing off

Seriously... What a bit of kit   I don't think the talent, time and patience would be available from me at this moment for such an elaborate project..... I can't even finish the little ones I have already started!

I'm sure I'm going to have to search through your posts to see what else you've been hiding    :)
