Serial modder from the UK
« on: April 14, 2010, 03:03:13 PM »
Hi Folks, great forum you have here!
A basic history, after 20 years in mechanical engineering the last recession did for my company so I did the life change thing...... Trouble is I cannot, not, design and build things, below are a few projects that come to mind:-

Hot air engines (all lost in a house fire :( )
1" scale traction engine from scratch.
Hand held lasers (including a hand held 7 colour one...first of its type and much copied)
Foghorn from plumbing parts

My present build is a mini jeep built onto a ride on mower chassis.

I have a lot of reading to do on the forums as I have seen a few ideas that take my fancy!

Also into anamatronics, here are a couple of shots of dragons I made for halloween...
First one has laser eyes and can move in all directions.
Second one runs along an airial runway with flapping wings.
Both are UV reactive, photos do not do them justice.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the dragons. Would like to see more of them. The jeep/mower project looks very interesting. Care to start a project log while you go about doing it?

Thanks for the welcome
I tried finding my build photos of the next oddity with no success so here is a link to the movie on metacafe

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/4477840/fairy_nuff/

The story behind this is that these days I teach kids about nature on a reserve in surrey, we do birthday parties at weekends and the girlies came up with a fairy party......
I did a deal, I would make some props for the party as long as I would not have to lead one.

So Fairy nuff was born, she resides in a large oak tree and when a group comes past a press of the wireless remote flys her into view!
She is UV lit for night time use as well.
