Hi, from British Columbia Canada, I 3d cad steam trains.
« on: April 25, 2010, 01:38:05 PM »
Hi just found this site... thought id check it out. I am a cnc machinist, I Cad scale steam trains then we cnc cut and assemble, always looking for new Cad drawings to share, as I have only been modeling trains for a few months, I only have one that is far from done. I have the frame, linkages, bearing blocks, valve gear (except the main casting), and some of the boiler completed for a Pacific. Thers a lot of parts on these things so I think It will be awhile before its finished. Working on axels and brake gear next, then wheels, cab and all those lil extra parts they stick on one of these things. We have a laser cutting machine I am looking for cut data/ CAd images for planes boats ect, to see if I can find anything cool to make with it, as I am just learning how to run it.

The link is our site

Cheers.

Cad drawing of a Pacific with Baker Valve gear, It is a Goldman steam chest casting adapted to a lil engines frame. The drawing is far from done still making changes, as far as valve gear location, making new pedistals for the crossbar that holds the yoke. I also have the boiler started, but far from finished.

Hi Buddpig, I too create CAD models of steam locomotives, not quite your scale though, mine are a bit smaller, 16mm narrow gauge.
Welcome to the group

Thanx Rob, Maybe we can trade some drawings, all I have at the moment is what you see above with some of the boiler done for a Pacific, still working on them, needs some tweeking here n there,  as we need the part for assembly I Cad it for CNC machining.

Cheers.

Wow... Rob that looks sweet, nice work , what CAD software do you use ?  I dont add color to mine as we just need the data to cut on the CNC's. I use Gibbs, I am not even sure if I can change colors on the parts ? Probly have to import it to Auto Cad or somthing.

Cheers,

Thanks, I don't normally colour them in, but a client wanted to see it in its proper colour scheme, so I blinged it up a bit  :dremel: I use Solidworks 3D software, I've been using this fantastic software since 2004.
I wouild love to have a go at something in your scale
