Does anyone know where to purchase Polyurethane bar stock in the UK ... the only one I can find online has silly prices

Thanks Colin I have sent an email ..

Dave, they are the chaps that are a bit high on their prices. Like for like they are about 3X the price of other sellers. At the mo I'm looking for 65mm dia in shore 90A and only these chaps have it so far.

Take this for an example
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/POLYURETHANE-ROD-2-OD-X-12-LONG-/300419689301?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_BOI_Industrial_Supply_Material_Handling_ET&hash=item45f268ab55

I have asked this seller if he has what I'm after ... but if anyone has any other leads I'd appreciate it

Hi Rob,

A gearbox mounting bush for my sons car. Standard there is a lot of slop in the original rubber fitment. This will stop the engine rocking so much and make more positive gear changes. There are two bushes in line one directly after the other so a lot of slop.

I was wondering if another plastic could be used or if it would just fall apart. I'm not really sure?

Some of the lads just make a solid steel one and I may do that yet.

Wow, I've had four emails back so far this morning (11:12am) saying that they (several places) no longer stock polyurethane. Inc Colins suggested outlet.

Even Metals4U have stopped along with several other plastics.

I thought this stuff was in common use for all sorts of products

Look under direct plastics for Polypropylene, nearly the same animal and £10 for 250mm

Good people to deal with. Just ordered ten sheets of 8mm HDPE sheet this morning.

Thanks John,

I've bought from them before a few times, quick delivery too ..

But what I didn't know is that I could use Polypropylene, having now read your post I'm guessing that's what the manufactures use when you see a tough white translucent plastic bush. I'm guessing the usual machining applies, sharp HSS tool and don't get it too hot  :)

I've bought Tufnol from Davis Industrial Plastics, because they sell offcuts of plastic, Tufnol etc to hobbyists at reasonable prices and postage. They seem to deal in polypropylene rod, too:
 http://www.shopforplastic.co.uk/polypro-rod-10---90mm-91-c.asp
That assumes, of course, that "Polypro" is short for polypropylene, and not some other plastic I've never heard of.

I've cut the end off it twice, but it's still too short

Bingo ....  :nrocks: :nrocks: :nrocks: :nrocks:

Found a sane supplier of this elusive stuff.

£15 for 300mm in 65mm dia and shore hardness you want from 35A

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300419689301&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123

A touch better than Direct Plastics £55. That's almost a quarter of the price.

Me happy now .....  :)
