Bung!
« on: August 01, 2010, 09:47:53 AM »
Well, I've no posted anything for a while so a little photographic update on 2 little things I bounced out over the last couple of weeks.

First time spent in the 'shop for a while....

As some of you know I have a Cossie and I am in an enthusiasts club. So when one of the members (Sarah) Who's hubby (Pete) had a stuffed a screwdriver in blocking up the hole where the dump valve used to be I was volunteered by Pete for the job of bung maker!

Now these things are about 4 notes (pounds sterling)  so this is not a money making venture but a few minutes turning to literally fill a hole... Well it should have been!

Exhibit 1....  a dump valve.

Showing the tube behind it where the blank is to fit. (well not on this one, this is the one off of my car)

Now my camera decided that it didn't like the first few piccys I took so I'll input a piccy of one that I found

Well that's not very good (although mine was already better than the one above IMHO)so we enter into the "blank made now how can we embellish it" stage!

Sarah has a mobile dog grooming service and as such a big van with huge pink dog paw prints all over it (I would show a picture but it's quite disturbing  )

So I got to thinking.... "I'll personalise it with a paw print!"

So, still mounted on the lathe arbour, over to the mill we go...

I set the drill stop so that the depths were all the same ~2mm

Not too bad for free hand, no CNC here  :dremel:

And then a little colour.... I has a touch-up pen similar to the car colour, dark blue (sadly no pink!) so that's what it got...

Left it over night for the paint to dry, then filled it with the clear lacquer that came with the touch-up.

A final few shots, the part next to a similar casting that I made it from (came from the Toyota engine factory... ssshhhh!)

And then the bung in the engine bay....

Honestly, I've never seen a woman so happy about a car part before. Ever!

Well, that's the first thing I've made for a while..... I know, so many photo's for such an easy thing to make.... C'est la vie!  :)

One more to post about in a bit....
