Many OLD Books Available For Free Download
« on: October 02, 2008, 12:58:22 PM »
If you enjoy seeing "how they did it, back in the day" then this link may interest you.  I have done quite a bit of copper and brass work for architectural restorations and frequently need to duplicate a "Victorian era" piece.  A friend pointed me to the Google Library project which has many 19th. and early 20th. century books on the "Manual Arts" available for download.

First go to,
http://books.google.com/books

Then enter a topic you would like to search for (repousee, copper work, autogenous welding, etc.) and hit "Search"

You will be rewarded with an extensive list of books.  Once you have the list of books, go to the "Showing" menu and select the "Full View Only" option which will cull the list down to books that are digitized and available for download.

You will need to search through the list to find the actual text books and manuals as several library catalog's will be listed as well.

I normally download the entire file and then burn it to a CD for future reference.

Enjoy!
