Gathering pace now lads, but still only a minor percentage.

Don't be shy, think of all the help and companionship you might be able to get.

A few of the members have already found neighbours they never thought they had.

Updated mine to be a bit more obvious...

Plus, I've joined the Dark Side (aka skype) - after much bullying I've persuaded it to work through my regular phone in the office :)

So now I plan to collect skype usernames too....
Cheers!

Ade,

I have added you to my Skype names, just needs you to accept.

If you have a question, just talk to me on Skype, it will be just like we were talking the other day in the kitchen.

A lot of the lads are already on Skype, but unlike myself, who uses it a lot, very few actually turn it on.

Cheers John, I'll have to accept it tomorrow, as it's sat in the office, on a screen that doesn't exist (it's complicated...)

IMHO the biggest barrier to Skype uptake, is that you can't buy a reasonably cheap standalone device which will run it. If Skype produced a standalone smartphone, I reckon they'd make £millions at least.
Cheers!

Does 3 mobile not work with skype? I'm sure I've noticed it in the menus or something before - I know it's not truly standalone but with a pay as you go I think it's still free?

I think Skype is really for home use, having a long discussion with people rather than the stuck to the head or bumping into people brigade while playing with their mobile wotzits.

To me, they are the bain of the modern world.

Plead poverty and can't feed the kids, but they have the latest gadget and can find money to top them up. To me they need locking up and the key throwing away.

Sorry Ade, if it ain't a normal comp to comp, sit down and chat setup, I personally ain't interested.

While on the subject of Skype. Why do I get odd bods trying to get me to accept them?

Dunno who they are

Never from anyone I recognise.

Latest one, today, is from a Susan.Zxxxx ( not full identity )

Is this some sort of common scam, or is it me ??

I just choose to ignore them.

Don't worry John, if you use skype to chat to me, it'll be just like a computer-to-computer talk (except I don't have a webcam.... well, I do have one, but it's job is to watch the power hacksaw when I'm here in the office). The biggest difference is, instead of using Skype directly, I have it piped into my Asterisk telephone system, which means I can do all kinds of clever stuff with it, most of which is beyond the scope of this note.

The best thing is, if I ever miss that "calling from the bottom of the toilet bowl" sound, I can just use the phone's hands-free option, and presto! Job done (or should that be "jobbie done"?)

Cheers!

Bluechip

Bogs, I know exactly what you are talking about, I see this sort of thing a lot - people pleading poverty but probably got sky HD, designer clothes, designer phones, smoke, drink, the list goes on!

anyway a bit  :offtopic: there, never mind!

I was going to list mine as Griffith in South Wales, then I thought...no... this is NEW South Wales... and then damn.... wrong country.......  :)

With just 20 million (just over) in a country this size....you dont run into each other too often..... closest I know of is Tel and he's 4.5 hours away.

How about the Aussies add theirs as well....

There is no harm done if everyone does it.

As long as it helps people to find each other, then all the better.

As long as you don't start showing full addresses (for your own security) the the more the merrier.

I find it very reassuring, knowing that if I get stuck with something, Stew is only a phone call away.

Oh Gawd ... this one's come back ... :bang:

Profile depicts a rather attractive lady from USA ( assuming it's for real ? )

So now what do I do ??

Ignore again, or have a quick shower, clean undies, and bash on regardless ..

Must dash. Off to order some Viagra and 50kg of Sanatogen ...
