New lathe to my "shop"
« on: January 02, 2011, 02:51:06 PM »
Hello every one. At last I have disided to let my old Unimat SL retired. I have brought myself a new lathe.

I realy like to looks of the lathe, he realy screams " let me work ".

Sorry to say, I brought this tathe at the wrong time. It was the very last one so I got a good price, but he had limit of equipment. I did not have a chanse to bay a 4-jaw chuck, so I can't begin to do some realy work yet.
However Ill got a borrchuck with morse cona for free, but with my luck it was not good for that lathe. The morse cona was not so good for my lathe, the cona was a bit to long.

However I have done a little thing..

This is a litle tool for indicate the distance in a hole where I can't use the micrometer.
Well that's for now.
Take care

You can get the spares etc from numerous other retailers worldwide. Over here to name a few Chester, Warco, Axminster, Machine Mart all the same machines.
Had one 5 years ago still got it with grease still on, two of everything, change wheels, QR tool posts, oil bottles, metric lead screw etc.

Is that some sort of depth stop?

Need to fix something up on my new lathe in time.

When I use my old Unimat, there was no chance to indicate how deep the hole was, so I made this one. It's still usefull.  :D

Saw/Benni...

According to the details at the bottom of this page found using Google (using the    "QA0812R-03"   code off your tool) it gives you the code for the insert.... JCQ3

http://precotools.en.made-in-china.com/product/BMCmzwuvfnrN/China-Indexable-Carbide-Turning-Tools-Set-Cutting-Tools-.html
(look in the chart at the bottom)

That then put into Google in  "JCQ3 "  quote marks  gives you this page..... I hope you can find a supply from there?

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=JCQ3+&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a#sclient=psy&hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&hs=EuF&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB%3Aofficial&q=%22JCQ3%22&aq=&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&pbx=1&fp=de610b7113b09eab

Try e-bay too.... None there today.  But I get a lot of my tips from there.

I can figure my way round your English pretty easily     Put it this way.... It's far better than my Swedish

Hope that lot helps you to NOT get ripped off by your supplier/salesman

I have just got it so I have not yet try the mill.
I have also brought a new bench for my lathe...

So I am soon good to go.
There is however not only good. It seams to me as my supplier has troubble to find me a 4-jaw independe chuck. I realy don't know what to do I need this chuck. I have been looking at ebay, search internet but I don't know I can't find one that I know that I can use.  :(

Maybee some one reading this has a good tip for me??

Lots of suppliers over here.....  Just a few I've used for bits and pieces over the years. Not saying any are better or worse, just these I have used  :)

http://www.chesteruk.net/store/4-jaw_chucks.htm

http://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/Catalogue/Chucks/Lathe-Chucks

http://www.chronos.ltd.uk/acatalog/chinese_lathe_chucks.html

I have no idea how much they would charge you for delivery?  But sending them an e-mail might help with that?

I'm going to assume that you are looking for a 4 jaw independent chuck? for holding irregular/odd shapes or parts off centre? I only mention this cause it'd be a shame to accidentally get a self centring one by mistake!!  :bang:

That's a nice mill you have too

now for all the tooling  :bugeye:    Take your time and look around. See what others use and for what. And how they get around issues.
It's the best way to figure out what you really need and don't need too! (I've still got stuff I haven't used!!!!)

There are plenty of posts about the 'shop and tools that others have on here, you've possibly read through a few?

Hope it all works out. We can't have your fun held up for too long can we?   :(

Ralph.
