The shop!
« on: January 06, 2011, 07:38:11 AM »
Been lurking here for quite some time, thought I'd register and even if I don't have time to contribute, I'll at least get involved with some machine porn :)

Heres a few pics, not brilliant but you get the gist!

Looks more like a show room than a shop with that nice looking flooring.

I'm really liking it.

Haha yeah, the Parquet flooring is pretty common in Universities in the UK. I've got some 1.5m x 1m x 6mm hardboard fixed in front of each machine now to prolong the decline of the nice polished floor.

Erm, not a bit of swarf in sight anywhere. That shop cannot ever have been used for machining (yet). It's way too neat!
Seriously, that comes very close to my idea of a dream shop. Very nice - except the floor, as everyone else has already noted. I'd be too scared to damage it, to do almost anything with the machines there! And the idea of dropping something heavy and pointy (or even blunt) to that floor...
Thanks for posting. Now I know what to do when (hehe, IF...) I win it big in Euromillions!

The pics were just as I'd moved into a new room, hence the cleanliness and lack of swarf but I do take pride in tidyness and it looks pretty much the same now, a year down the line!

The floors taking a surprising amount of punishment! I make sure to sweep every week and mop every few weeks to look after it, definitely gives the shop a bit of character.

Oh and I can't say what's underneath the trapdoors ::)

Very nice indeed, must have took a long time to accumulate those old but great machines. Some money tied up there.
Very envious and wish i had 1/4 of that work area.

4 decent lathes and 2 mills, how did you get them in there and position without marking or scratching the floor?

Thought it was one of these ..

But it isn't a M300 ...

Think it is a Harrison though

Very tasty.... I have floor envy now.

Curious - I'm guessing this is not a home shop, unless you bought a defunct university that you're now living in?
Cheers!

Broady,

Do you realize that,  all by yourself,  you have created a new psychological condition.

I saw this in a recent issue of 'Rarefied Mental States' .

' Properly known as ' Clean Workshop Floor Syndrome' it is responsible for a growing state of depression amongst mostly old retired machinists.

'Broadys' as this state has become known isn't thought to be terminal.  The recommended cure is to remove finger from a*** and,  armed with a brush and a strong coffee,  clear up the years of accumulated junk (AKA spare bits) and arrange them alphabetically on racks.

Unfortunately not all madmodders are able to make the leap of imagination needed. These poor individuals are often to be found in the local hostelry muttering things like 'Stuff Broady,  gimme another pint'.

Your Nobel is in the post.

The White one in the corner is a Hardinge, the greeny / grey one is a Harrison M300.

Legit LOL at Dave!
