New to Madmodder
« on: January 13, 2011, 07:29:58 PM »
Hello Folks,

This site was recommended to me by one of your members (Stilldrillin) and i decided to join.
Let me start by saying that i have had no formal machine training or skills , however because i started a hobby collecting steam engines about 10 months ago , the need to make some parts was my primary push and not long after i bought a little Emco compact 5 lathe. Prior to this , i had never even seen a lathe let alone operate one .Since then a few other machines have found their way into my workshop which up till then had only hand tools. I have researched the web myself (thank god for Youtube  :coffee: ) , asked questions to everyone who listened and basically taught myself from the good old trial and error principle. I have successfully built a few engines and can make a few of the small parts i need myself.
I now have a basic workshop and i daily encounter challenges that make me yearn for more information.

Your forum seems to be rich with tips and tricks and i hope to suck up as much as i can, kindly pardon my silly questions from time to time.

Greetings from Copenhagen , Denmark.

Welcome to MadModder. We are very glad that you have decided to join up and have a look around. Most of our members were in the same stage as yourself at one point and have all moved up at different levels. I believe that whatever the question you will find someone with the knowledge to answer it or to help you find the answer. We are one big happy family here, everyone helps everyone else. Perhaps when you have the time you could post up some photos of some of your engines for the members to look at. We look forward to your participation in the forum.  :D :D

Cheers

Hiya Benchmark

Welcome to the collective :borg:

Glad you signed up. We are all still learning. I got started by wanting to make motorcycle parts I had in my head that I couldn't buy anywhere. I have slowly graduated to anything mechanical I can get my hands on.

I just love your site!
Many thanks for sharing with us all.
I was stationed ( Air Base) not so far from you for some months back in the sixty's, I was very impressed with the hospitality of folk there. :D :D :D :D :D :D
It was mid winter and really cold and deep snow but every thing kept going and a Taxi ride to the night clubs in Copenhagen was a weekend treat. I would love to visit again but getting a bit Old. :(
