......If enough interest was developed and enough tat [ sorry desirable goodies ] were available for show.....

Ah, there’s the rub! A Madmodder Harrogate UK Sub-Committee would be needed to choose the exhibits, and UK members exhorted to attend and submit to beauty parades (for their artefacts, not for themselves).

It might result in   :poke:    :hammer:     :wack:     :bang:

Martin, I wish I could do that but am being bullied into taking my 5 year old for the day now - apparently he's been talking about it for ages  I thought he'd gone off it. I don't mind, I want him to be interested but he gets quite bored manning the club stand for 2 hours then looking at tools again and again and I can't concentrate and make any decisions when somebody is pestering me all the time so I always come away with nothing or something I didn't want in the first place!

 good point Andy! I just thought I'd raise the question and gauge interest, prob should have done it in the committe board. All depends whether A. anybody wants to promote the site? and B. whether anybody wants to show any of the stuff we show on the site to others? Or are we happy just keeping them to ourselves.

I think it'd be a bit of a first at the show though and would show Madmodder in a good light.

I've started a new thread on the Committe board so the powers that be can decide whether they think it's worth doing or not.

Since it's now only 2 weeks away I decided I'd give this thread a kick in the right direction again..... It all went a but Pete Tong!

Anywho, details of the dates....

The address is at the bottom of the page with postcode and all that there too. I used this page
 http://www.eventcentre.co.uk/events-calendar/event-details/NationalModelEngineeringandModellingExhibition.html?ContentID=83

Due to the actual organisers flier has no event address details!?   Minor?? Oversight!  ( http://www.theharrogateshow.com/ )

I believe from reading this whole post that Saturday seems preferable to most?

Now, am I correct in thinking we are looking at a gathering around midday?

And is such a gathering going to be near if not pretty much surrounding the Chester UK stand?

I know Arc stand was mentioned but if my head serves me correctly it was in one of the narrowest parts of the event last time I was there!

I'm just trying to confirm all of this cause I'd like to be sure of the plan.   :)

Well, baring the "money pit" as Bogs calls it (my car) failing in a major fashion I'll be there and trying to budget my way through the show   Yeah, like I'll be able to stop spending once I see they have portable card machines!  :bang:

Well, consider that a friendly :poke:

Reading the previous posts I see that Saturday is a day for members to meet at noon (high noon?).

Could you please advise me what day is the best to visit? I arrive in London from Johannesburg on Wednesday and leave the following Tuesday. I will have a car and can drive up to Harrogate for a one day visit.

I do not have an advance purchase ticket for the show - is queuing likely to take much time? What time should one arrive at the grounds to make the most of the day there? All going well it is about a 3hr 30 min drive up.

Your ideas will be most useful - thank you.

Hi Dennis

Great that you can make it.

The best day is Saturday as most model engineers in the UK are retired they visit Thursday and Friday, try and get their as soon as the doors open, the queing is not too bad they have plenty of tills open so it will be less than 1/2 hr, and an hour after the doors open there will be no queue at all. Avoid the temptation of hitting the trade stands as soon as you get in, that's what everyone does and it can be bedlam, visit the show hall and have a look at the exhibits, before lunch, then in the afternoon visit the trade stands when its queter.

Hope you enjoy the show and we look forward to meeting you at the Chester stand

Dennis,

Long way for the show  :bugeye:... But I'm going to  assume there are other reasons for your visit too

From what little I know Friday is silly busy and packed. I've always been on the Saturday and never had any trouble getting in at the door "pay on the day".

I have always aimed for 9:45 arrival as it opens at 10.... Only ever made it just about 10 once though.... Traffic occasionally sucks!

Any time 10-11:00 would seem like a good time to aim for.... Show's open till 5pm.  I've always had time to scan around the models and the trade stalls. Then return and take videos and stills and then buy all the bits I wanted and could afford.... 7hrs is a long time!

You might have trouble with the carry on weight if you get carried away   If it's a good day there will usually be all sorts of sizes of traction engines running about outside too  :)

Well, hope that helps a little?

Ralph.

Just saw Stew's answer.... What he said too, apart from it's not open on the Thursday :)

Dennis,

Just  two tips:

First, there is food on offer, but it never looks particularly appetising to me, and finding a table can be hard at lunchtime. Either bring something (you can leave it in the car and get a passout when hungry), or buy a sandwich at the Sainsbury's supermarket you pass at the start of the long driveway down to the Showground

Secondly, if you stay until the end, you may find the lemming-like rush to leave leads to a long wait caused by the traffic lights next to Sainsbury's. Either leave a bit earlier, or be prepared to take one of the back ways out of the Showground - if you are meeting up with the lads at noon, I'm sure one of them will point you in the right direction. If I'm there. I will.

I'm thinking it might be outside on the grass if there are many more of us there!   (weather permitting!?)

John.... I told you that was for a very good reason and would only be on special occasions

Well, I'm about to price up all the things I want.... Then get realistic and cross 95% of them off and carry on with the 5% list to make sure I don't get ripped off!

It's amazing how clouded your judgement gan get when faced with hundreds of shiny bits of tooling

We'll all be around the area at 12 ish. Anyone is welcome to say hello and even a few more words to me if they like.... I know I'm possibly not the most approachable looking person but I'm ok really... just ask John, Stew , Ade and a few select others  :)   (and take the first thing thet say as jovial.... I know the jokes will come out first  ::)  )

Just wondering what Tshirt to wear to make me stand out a little more?

Which do you think?

Oh well... No help!

I'll make the executive decision then.... The RS one it is!

Think I might give some old dear a shock with the Canadian tree huger special, and I do look like a myth buster in the other one
