What could I do with this sad little lathe?

What could I do with this little lathe?  It looks like it has been dropped on its face.

CNC it. Use it to make pulleys etc. Turn it into a dedicated line boring machine?

Hmmm

Might still be repairable. Something to play around with.

You might have a look at Grizzly to estimate on the cost of repair parts. Just click on the "Purchase Parts" button to see current prices.

That would make a perfect CNC project.  Looks like the only broken parts are the ones that you DON'T need for a CNC machine.

Do a search for 9 X 20 CNC lathes and you will find a ton of ideas.

Good luck!

Considering where it is perhaps it fell off the bench in a 7.1 earthquake.

Sorry to hear of your bad fortune John.... :(

If it were me, I'd be inclined to cost up the parts  to effect repairs...

Depends if its your only machine...

Hope it gets better

Its not my lathe John!  But I did put a modest bid in to see what happens.  Maybe I can use the bits for something or even make them into a 'lathe' again.

As the gearbox and some of the feedscrews are a bit broken, I would definitely convert it to CNC :)

If I had to rely on photos, I'd worry about damage which they may not reveal. For instance, bed damage from the apron being been driven violently back against the bed when it hit the floor, and a bent spindle when the lathe stopped suddenly and the chuck tried to carry on downwards.

That said, if it's really cheap, and you are looking for yet another lathe, why not? No apparent bloodstains, so it probably doesn't incorporate bits of the previous owner's toes  :) .

I agree with andyf.  Give it a decent burial.

A couple of days to go and the bidding is about US $130.

After today's events, it's probably fallen off the bench again.
