Was that a metric or imperial drill?

Anyway, now you've made the hole, what material do you plan to make the plug out of? I've got some graphite going spare...  :)
Cheers!

Polished brass.  Gotta bling it up!

You know you're on a good forum when the comments are about cutting oil and measurement systems, not the poor bugger himself!

I can defo relate to the finger injury...

When I worked at the power station many, many years ago, I was going outside and as I opened the door, a gust of wind caught it...
I put my hand around the edge of said door to stop it crashing into a metal ladder that was on the wall adjacent to the opening....Suffice to say I should not have done that! My 2nd finger RH came between the ladder and the door....
Swelled up good and proper it did...So off to hospital A&E....The nurse got a small spirit lamp and took a paper clip, unfolded it, held one end in the flame and said 'hold out your hand this might sting a bit'.....Yeeeaahhhhhhhh....you're not kidding....I promptly fell to the floor....She popped her head outside the curtain and hailed the current Mrs Rudd...
'Could you help your husband up off the floor? ' she asked....

After having a dressing applied to said finger, we headed back for home...I need a drink!!

Geordies drill finger nails just for a laugh
Joking apart a hot paper clip works (but a drill is slower and more fun )

A friend tells a story about a workmate sorting his finger out in similar fashion at work, a young apprentice laughing at the pain the old fellow was in said that "he should be more careful with the hammer next time".
A few minutes later same young lad has hit his finger with hammer and is screaming in pain ,as he places his finger under the pillar drill he asks the old hand if this is how he takes away the pain, "go on son" is the reply you can imagine the rest :jaw:

I would tap it and use a SHCS.  :proj:

And make sure it's a fine thread.  You'll get the screw back when that nail pops off.
Thumbs up, bud.  We're in a pretty big club.

I've done the same in a car door
I tried the red hot paper clip but chickened out for fear of pushing to far
the next day I could take no more throbbing and someone suggested I drill it  :dremel: well gently twiddled between fingers
best home operation I have ever performed instant relief
It took about five to six months for the nail to grow back straight

I did the same thing but it was my big toe. I had a cart of small scrap wood I
flipped over into the trash bin. It rolled straight back head-on into my big toe.
Took about two weeks before the nail finally came off, then six to seven months to
grow back. A year later I did the same thing to the other foot when I was helping
a friend load a double door refrigerator into his pick up.

I had my nail of my toe popped not while in the shop but on the beach trying to be a soccer player (some will say football) when I'm not.  That was our 1st day of our company retreat and we just got there.  While the guys are having fun, I was in the hotel with nail clipper and needle removing the sand while cutting the whole nail off.  It was very very painful.  Few months after, the nail grew back.

Lesson: don't try to be what you aren't. I'll stick to the small white ones...

I performed the operation on my 10-year-old daughter some years ago after she got her finger slammed in a door.  She was tough, but the finger really hurt, so she was game for anything that promised relief.  Not only that, but she hadn't achieved enough years to render me totally stupid yet, so she trusted me.  She calmly observed the process and was gratified by the result, and still remarks some 30 years later about the "ostomy" that I performed.

When you have drilled the hole to relieve the pain, then use this lot to seal the hole up to stop any nasty infection.
