Project LCCT
« on: March 23, 2011, 08:59:05 AM »
Hello,

I am Carlos, and Spanish old man.
I live in The Netherlands, married and with children and one grandchild.

I always have had a great passion for cars and driving, so I decide to design one and my son will build it.
One friend told me about this forum and I can say that left some tears of pleasure when I see your machining work.

Lets say I have some weakness for forms and precision tooling.

My healthy has put me in the invalidity corner, but I keep my self active via the design and some building hours.

OK here we go. I have two projects.
One is the real scale 1:1 and in the last couple of weeks I have started the Scale 1:5

The project has been call LCCT
I have done the 3D design and my son is building it.

It and other Lotus Seven replica, yes I know that there are a lot of them, but like everyone say "This one is different" :palm:

I post several pictures of the design, construction and design of the scale 1:5

Now that was the part of the 3D design.
I have used SolidWorks and it has take me about 1.5 year
Lots of movements simulation has been done, Geometry checks, installation check, etc.

For the fabrication of parts we use the Sheet Metal and Laser Cut technology.
Not that we have access to such machine but we did order the job.
So hereafter you will see some of the fabrication.

The chassis is based on square tube of 25x25x1.5 mm and all the tubes are cut with laser, what a great decision.

In some of the pictures you will see that we re-use some parts from other vehicles, we are force to do that to reduce cost.

The next pictures are from the new project the LCCT but on scale 1:5
As you can see we like to produce an scale 1:5 but for the motorization we will use standard [E-Bay] parts from the RC World.
Finding parts, cheap and right for the purpose is difficult, but also a great activity.

Use RC- Components is probably not the way you like to have but we are forced, due to that we do not have access to the machines.

QUESTION

As you have see some of the parts of the 1:1 car are to heavy, so we think and use aluminum alloy to reduce the weight.
But having talk with some people I have found that CNC machining is a costly idea.

So perhaps there is some person that is interested and want to sponsor our project with some CNC machine time to fabricate the front knuckles and steering arms.

Thanks for reading,
Regards,
Carlos

The car design is very nice. I see some hints of Lotus (and Locost!) in there. Very nice!

Oh and welcome to the collective :borg:

Being a car guy (and motorcycle) I went back and re-read your post and drooled over the pictures. That is a very nice design you have there. Like the style. I am planning on doing something similar in the next few years. I was going to modify a locost style frame and possible design an electric car. Something to get me back and forth to the train station.

Would love to see a build log on both the 1:1 and 1:5

Carlos

Welcome to MadModder. That design certainly is impressive as is the construction that you have finished to date. I will be watching closely while you continue with the build of both cars. It looks like you and your son make a good team I always wanted to build something like that in my younger years but it just never happened. Good luck with the build.  :D :D

Cheers

Hello,
Thanks! I appreciate your reactions.
Some times we have some progress, in general things go very slow.
But I will post here the developments.

Regards,
Carlos
