« on: April 03, 2011, 05:29:56 AM »
Hi guys
some of you may know me from over on Hmem where ive been posting My "Sows ear" hit and miss kerzel (my second project, my first was a "Webster")
well im not too far away from finishing it and am thinking about posting my next one here, as a change of pace
I thought ID post a pic and see if the size and res is ok for Madmodder.
I dont know much about computers or cameras either for that matter, but my 18 month old loves the smilys bouncing around  :)

Hello Pete,

I've been watching your build on HMEM - just recently completed my first engine and am well on my way with an Upshur so anything H&M is of interest to me.

I don't know if it's just my setup, but your photo was about twice as wide as my wide screen monitor so I'd suggest you might want to reduce the size quite a bit. It appears your image size is ~2,500 X 1960 pixels, and the photos that fit onto the screen are usually 640 X 480. There are a number of ways to resize the photos including some freebies.

Let me know what size you settle on for my future use.

Best,
Mike

Pete, my computer is a bit of an antique, with only 500Mb of RAM. After several attempts to open your post caused Internet Explorer to hang, I finally got the post open, but the pic isn't visible. I know little about computers, so don't know if it's the size of the pic or something else which is causing the problem, but all the other posts on here have always opened without a hitch.

I've cut the end off it twice, but it's still too short

Serif PhotoPlus V? is available free. It requires registration - they will send you umteen special offers by email, but their software is very good value. I use it myself.

Try Fastone Picture Resizer. Does everything you are ever likely to need and totally free. All the pics you see with watermarks are most probably done with it. It converts, resizes, colour corrects, watermarks and consecutively renames 20 pics in about 5 seconds.

I have found if you put the picture on Flickr and select the medium size when you select the picture  it comes out just right. Its 640 by 500(ish) Flickr does the resizing for you with out the need for any fancy software.

Looks good.

Try out what Peter said, 800X600. That will just about fill a screen.

Ok, now on to the "Sows ear". More pics please.  :ddb:  :ddb:  :ddb:  :ddb:

The only problem now is that you are uploading pictures to the site, rather than storing them in your own off site storage account, Photobucket, Flickr etc, and linking to them thru your text.

If everyone did as you are doing, the site would soon fill up it's storage allowance and bloat out the site, and so things would start to slow down and of course cost more money for more storage.

Bogs is right it's better if you are using Photobuck, look at this threed http://madmodder.net/index.php?topic=607.0. Another thing, by doing this you can also write som textt between your'e photos, it's much better.  :D

Thanks for that suggestion, John.  I downloaded and tried it and it looks to be a nice replacement for the more awkward, separate programs I had been using.  An added plus is now being able to watermark my pictures, something I've wanted to be able to do for a long time.

Thanks again.
Regards, Marv

Hi Pete and anyone else who's interested.

I just finished a bit of a guide (hopefully works?) on the use of the Faststone photo resizer.

http://madmodder.net/index.php?topic=4735.msg52263#msg52263

I also edited the photobucket thread referred to by Saw. So that it's up to date with the current version

Pete.... Watermark....... Ghostly image you see in the corner or text over our pic's..... Makes sure they are yours and anyone who copies them will have to advertise that it's your work
