A warm hi to all from sunny Spain
« on: April 04, 2011, 07:52:23 PM »
Hi all

Just a brief intoduction, I am a retired Caterpillar technician currently living in Spain. Since my retirement 6 years ago I keep myself busy building model trucks( see my website http://www.telefonica.net/web2/modeltrucking/index.htm). Due to very poor eyesight I ended up using technology to help in manufacture of parts, this led to building a CNC router and later buying a local version of a 7 x 12 lathe (here my horrors started) :bang:. I also delve/play around with electronics and computers.  One of my biggest difficuties here is to get tooling and raw material and normaly end up ordering from accross the pond/U.K. I have learn a lot from this (and other) forums and appriciate the oppertunity these bring to all.  :nrocks: Will post some photos of my shop once uploaded.

Edit: A few pictures of what I do on the CNC.

Cheers for now.

Hi Kenneth

Am cutting the parts.  The only molded part is the tyre, a story on it´s own.

Looks good.  There is a surprising model truck community here (in Spain).  Whereabouts are you located?

...One of my biggest difficuties here is to get tooling and raw material and normaly end up ordering from accross the pond/U.K. ...

Supplies here are a problem, but things are slowly getting better, especially as far as raw material is concerned.  (Many people here end up ordering tooling from the U.K.)  Let me know what sort of stuff you're looking for and I'll do my best to point you towards a local supplier.  I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Saludos,

Josh

Thanks guys

Eric, they go on this fellow.

Josh,  biggest need is for aluminium solid (round, square, flat) in short lengths and some free machining steel for some mods on the lathe.  Found lots of suppliers but they only sell 6m lenghts. Am in a small viillage(pueblo) outside Valencia.

Saludos

Took a quick surf over to your web site. Looks like it's going to be very interesting if your into model building. I really like it. Such detail, very nice.
My first love is model railroading. Since I'm getting to that age were the eyes are getting worse I've switched from HO sacel (3.5mm per foot) to O scale 1:48.
Sure would like to see a build thread on one of those trucks when you make another one.

Oh, BTW, welcome to the collective.  :borg:

Welcome aboard!  :borg: Looking forward to seeing more of those intricate looking models.

I spent a couple of winters down near Cádiz (Novo Sancti Petri), and they were much better winters than these UK ones... This was before I had my machine shop...
Cheers!

I believe that Broncesval in Paterna sells by the cut, but they don't do steel.  Worst case, let me know what you're after and I'll send it down for you from Barcelona.

Thanks for the warm welcome all.

Hopefully this year I will get to do some actual model builing. the past two years was spent renovating a house, moving house, renovating new house and getting the new shop set up, appart from constant "tweeks" to the router.
