A bit more whittling of the cylinder block tonight ,, bored out and under cut the section for the water tank .

Then back to the mill ,,, removed some of the excess material to from the tank

Used a end mill with a 3mm rad to form the tank top

Milled the tank hole square

Added a rad to the top edge of the tank

next a slot is milled to join the tank to the water jacket

And thats it for tonight

Rob

Great job you are doing on the Kerzel Rob. There is no such thing as too many photo's although it can be a pain taking them and doing the write up later. I'll be watching through to the end as usual.  :D :D

Cheers

Hi Robb, good to see you making progress so well, and quickly, you should have er running in no time at all!  Looking forward to this whole build, so far, very nice work.  I'm glad I got the chance to see one running too, thanks to he who posted his old build, kind of brings life into the picture. :nrocks:  Cheers, Jack

Cheers Jack  ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, i am getting there  :)

A bit more tonight ,,,,,, :dremel: the cylinder block needs a bit more profiling ,, job for the R/T .

The block was held in a 4 jaw chuck and the bore clocked in to the R/T axis .

then one side was clocked in to the mill X axis , this is so the head bolt holes and radiussssss will be in the correct position , making note of the R/T dial
reading.

Then finally the job was clocked into the mill spindle ,,,,,, zeroing the mill dials .

Now we no were the job is in relation to everything ,, time to start milling  :dremel: , first off the head bolt holes were spotted ,

Next the 180 deg radius was milled on the lower section of the block

Then the job was spun around and the other side milled

Thats it for tonight  :)   must admit this is a fun engine to build  :ddb: :ddb: :ddb:

Nice to see a rotary table being used properly......

(As in.... Finding centre, and keeping track of where the cutter is, in relation to r/t positions).

Well..... I know what I mean!  ::)

That's looking great Rob, the milling of the radii is a definite plus, and gives it character.  With that size hopper, it should run for about forever without overheating :ddb: :headbang:  how big is that block before you machine it all out?  I've got to make sure I've got enough raw stock for when I get to it.  Great build, and there's never too many pictures    Cheers, Jack

Nice work, Rob.  Your rotary table / 4 jaw chuck set up looks identical to mine.

Jack  ,, a lump  1 1/2" x 2 1/2" x 2 3/4"  will do the cylinder block ,,,,  fairly small engine  :med:

and here is a shot next to Johns water jacket  ::)

A question, why is it call a  Hit n Miss Engine  :zap:

Hi Benni ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, its a hit and miss ,, because when the engine is not under load ,, it only fires now and then ,, Fire /hit ,, free wheel for a few revolutions /miss

More photos of tonight's efforts  :dremel:

Made a start on the bearing blocks ,, a bit more 4 jaw chuck work .

I used larger than required stock so the was more to get hold of in the 4 jaw .

the excess on the back face was milled of with a fly cutter .

Still a bit of work to do to them ,,, thats for tomorrow as we have a  day off work in the UK ,,,,,,,,dont you just love the royal family  :ddb: :ddb: :ddb: :ddb: Shop time  :)

What the.....

I`ve only gone out of thread for a day and you have nearly built it. Man, I really am slow  :bang:  Nice build and please please, as many pictures as you can, there are never too many especially when your trying to follow them! Some really good setups and you horizontal mill looks to get some action. Just curious, what determines whether you choose to use your horizontal setup or a standard vertical? - I know there is always more than one way "to skin a cat", but just curious how you personally decide.

Great to see you making an engine rob  Beautifully crafted from solid bar, I'll definitely be watching this one - there are so many good build logs on here I'll have no time to do anything of my own
