SteamPunk Lamps
« on: May 11, 2008, 11:05:15 PM »
Here are a couple of SteamPunk style lamps I built to sell on Ebay... need to earn a few extra bucks. I got the idea from the a topic I saw on the Instructables website.

A Gismo ??? If it has a flywheel or spins and is made with small parts. I'll take one! If it makes noise, moves, or requires frequent oiling and dusting it's a better deal yet. It's especially right if its shiny and bright; but if it's dirty and dull it wont mater at all...

Home Depot and Lowes. They both carry them. Pretty cheap too... I think they are called appliance bulbs.

Hey Julian...

Steampunk is an aesthetic movement based on neo victorianism. Think brass, copper, steam and airships... a future that never was.

Some links to help explain what I mean.

Brassgoggles
Datamancer's Site
Steampunk Workshop

Very fun stuff

Eric has it right, with only this heads up. There are a lot of younger younguns on the brass goggles site and they don't think about the real world facts of weight and real limitations of materials etc. So don't waste the typing time. Trying to explain somethings to them as they don't what to know it won't work. Coal fired boilers, driving slow speed steam engines, on airships using steam as a lifting agent. In the real world. Or them waiting for the old style steam cars and motor cycles making a full world wide  come back.
It is a life style choice now like Gothic, new wave and punk. Evolved from a hand full of Sci Fi books and story lines. Some are dressing the part and decorating their homes and rooms. in the neo vic style
There are a group of older people that actually are quite talented in the area of construction and such, It is great fun most of the time. Other than when one takes it to personal, on God/no God or politics.
 ;)
Check out this thread http://www.brassgoggles.co.uk/bg-forum/index.php?topic=7803.0 all from a plastic planters and some bits and pieces. Its great you can skim thru the thread looking for the pictures

Here is another style of lamp made for a prop type decoration, Journey to the center of the earth style.

It is a hand crank, white LED lantern. Started life as a Horrible Fright one on sale.

before the start of the complete strip and redo.

brass leafed or gilded

made to look old  or what I call curded up!

Yeah they do get quite warm. Not as bad as you would think though. THIS is where I got the idea from. They have basic instructions on how to make one. Check it out.
