Twin Marine Steam Engine
« on: June 24, 2011, 07:27:12 PM »
Still need to get in a little shop time while I'm planning my next engine design and I don't feel like building or tuning tools.  So, I'm starting work on a marine twin steam engine designed by Rudy Kouhoupt.

For awhile now I've felt the urge to build a vehicle with an engine in it.  I've thought about boats, trains, and tanks or tractors.  While I haven't decided for sure what vehicle to build, I figured this little steam engine would power about anything.  I had thought about building the Moteur Oscillant but in the end decided to go with Rudy's engine instead.   Unfortunately, it doesn't have reverse, but perhaps gears could be used to reverse instead.

The engine has a 5/8" x 3/4" bore and stroke.  The cylinder block, pictured below is 2.5" x 1.0" x 1.0".  The exhaust ports are 1/8" x 1/4" and the inlet ports are 1/16" x 1/4".  Hopefully I can stay with this engine to get it completed.  At least I'm off to a good start.
