Nemett 15cc 4 stroke engine
« on: July 29, 2011, 03:50:08 PM »
Hi Guys.

well I've finally bitten the bullet and started building this engine.
this won't be a blow by blow account, rather a show and tell as I (hopefully) finish a part.

It will also take me a fair amount of time as I have to save for the material and tooling required, I've already come to a stop on the head because I need a rotary table and they don't grow on trees.

parts so far, cylinder jacket

crankcase nosepiece.

part finished head.

and crankshaft.

That's it so far.
next is get a square lump of ally for the crankcase.
expensive hobby this, ain't it :(

more to follow soon.

I hope  :D

cheers
Roy

Nice looking engine to build. You got a great start on it!

Where do I find the plans?

Nice start, the plans are a pain to get hold of!! I purchased Malcom Stride's book - Minature Internal Combustion engines which has his NE15s splashed all over it, but no plans!

I believe even the plans in the ME editions stop short of a complete set and now he isn`t around they are no longer for sale.

I stand to be corrected!

Hi
thanks for the kind words.
I'm ( attempting) to build it straight from the plans in M.E.

They appear to go through to the end so I'll have to see what happens.
As for buying the plans, have you seen the price!
I can just about afford the material.
I used to be confused, now I just don't know.

Wheeltapper - I haven`t seen the price because I couldn`t find the plans for sale anywhere!

Are you certain the ME articles cover the entire build? I was under the impression they stopped short.

pm to you.

Seem to remember there being an advert in one of the model engineers for the plans. I started buying it again as saw that engine on the cover when it started but I quickly realised it was too complex for me! I think I may still have the odd copies I bought though.

Nice work there Roy.

There are a set of plans and a build book for the Nemett.

I bought a job lot of books a while ago and I reckon there are a couple of each in there, need to check but the boxes are not here at the moment and stored elsewhere.

The build book is based on the engine and like the ME articles does not quite have all the info, I think the cam profile may only be in the plans, possibly Malcoms way of ensuring he sold some sets of drawings.

JS The plans are hard to come by, since his death, you often see wanted adverts for them make sure you price them right.

By book build, do you mean his book, Minature IC engines?

No it's a  booklet, A4 sized called Building the Nemmett or something like that, with it not being here I can't be certain but it's certainly not the Miniature IC book, that's on the shelf above me.

The booklet is to go with the plans and cover the various operations, should be able to get it mid week.

Jason what sort of price are they fetching ?

Peter,
Certainly, I'm not sure just what is in the box but I think there are about 3 sets, never actually looked all the way thru the box, just bought a big stack of books and magazines off a guy who was retiring and selling up.

As I say the box is in storage so need to go over and fetch it then sort it possibly mid week to later.

I`d also be interested in purchasing a copy John, I have the book mininature IC engines and also a set of plans for the NE15s but would like the book to go with them all.

The drawings were a bit pricy when they were available at £45 a set, that would be a good starting price to be looking for.

I wonder if the booklet is infact copies of the ME articles.

Hi all.
John, the parts I copied from the mags run from april 13 2006 to 20 dec 2006 if thats any help.
I can look up the issue No's if you want.

I've finished the crankshaft now, here's a couple of pics.

crankshaft with bearings.

and assembled in the nosepiece.

I'll try to get the material for the crankcase tomorrow.

thanks for looking.

OK been and collected two boxes of books, there were four boxes but two are still hiding so not sure what is in those as they were never undone.

So at the moment I have 5 books and 6 sets of plans all brand new except that one book has all the material sizes highlighted in highlighter pen.

One thing that puzzles me is all the drawings are clearly marked Nemett 15S - 15cc SOHC Four Stroke Engine, sheets 1 to 15.

However the book clearly states "Constructing the Lynx"
"Note: This is designed to accompany the full A3 engine drawings. It does not contain any drawings. "

So is the Lynx and the Nemett the same engine ? Looks to me as it is because I can't see any differences but it would be nice to know.
