Hi
I dont usually embarrass myself in public but I had to take a pic of this.
poor mans DRO.
can I nominate it for bodge of the year?

I had to move the mill table an exact amount for the hole centres of the con rod for this engine.
steel bar clamped to the lathe tray, square clamped to that, digital caliper clamped to the mill vise and the other bit of the caliper clamped to the square.

piece of wood to take out the spring. :bugeye:

am I mad or what?

Roy

That can be no embarrassment, but rather the cobbled together accuracy test of the decade, and should be enshrined with a framed picture on the wall of your shop.  I'll second that call for "bodge of the year!! :nrocks:  :mmr:  Cheers, mad jack

It looks like you're really getting close now, we ought to be treated to some sound and fury out of the little beast fairly soon I expect.  Very nicely done, fine craftsmanship all the way. :bugeye: :jaw:   Cheers, mad jack

Hi all
I had a bit of a shock earlier, I made the timing disc to set the timing and discovered to my horror that the cams  were assembed wrongly on the shaft.

I managed to break the loktite grip with a small blowtorch so now I can do it again PROPERLY :bang: :bang:

Oh well, something had to go wrong sooner or later.

It is a long honored tradition in the far east, China in particular, but other places as well, to deliberately insert an error in a work, whether art, building, dish, everything which demands skill, just to demonstrate no intent of challenging the perfection of creation.  It is said that failing to do so will invoke an unintended error, which will interfere with the intended job one is doing, so maybe you need to put a flaw in it, so you won't get something else wrong.  I think some of these old traditional thoughts which have echoes in our own societies are of real value in putting our work and lives into perspective in the world at large.  Lots of fine looking parts, and getting awfully close to a finish line I hope.  Very nice work, and it should be a great runner. :jaw:   Looking forward to video, cheers, mad jack
