Unplanned down time
« on: October 04, 2011, 01:55:19 PM »
So the hosting service had an issue last night. They had forgotten to turn the server back on until this morning and there were still issues with it.

Researching a new hosting service and hope to move again in October. Frankly I am tired of all the down time.

I am so angry I am vibrating. We left the old host for this one, because it was supposed to be better. Now I pay twice as much for half the service!  :bang:

Eric,

Thanks for all your efforts; I've had withdrawal symptoms all day!

If a new host involves $$, shout up and I for one will check down the sides of the sofa for lost coins.

I've cut the end off it twice, but it's still too short

Donations are never turned down...

I have some feelers out for new host providers. I would like to get more storage so I can add some features to the site. Maybe a chat function? image gallery?

Eric give Ariotek a look up, i use them and they cover service themselves. even if there has been a problem they will even call you to sort. Been very pleased and have never looked back on changing to them.

I don't know if I can suggest this as its a similar site but HMEM seems to have little downtime. Maybe their server would take on another but then I dont know if the costs are reasonable. Still no matter the outcomes I'm sure you will find a suitable site for us. :headbang

I've had few or no issues with Hostgator, though my use is pretty low traffic.

I noticed a smurf error ("SMURF can't connect to database" or something similar) this AM (or maybe it was last night, I forget now), all OK again now though.

And, FWIW, I never seem to have the posting problems that others get.... not sure why.

Cheers!

Hi Eric,

I have had problems too; as noted by Pete, HMEM don't seem to have problems; might be worth investigating.

Just to say, this is my home and the others I look at occassionally.
Whatever you decide to do is fine by me...just shout if you need sheckels.

My tuppence worth (that's real money that is ) I think a folder for files and pictures would be handy. We all have stuff that we can make available (even me) and it would be handy to have somewhere to find it easily without trawling through loads of posts.
The Drummond forum (http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/drummondlathe/) has such a thing and it is really helpful   (of course we are interested in a limited range of information  )

Whatever you need to do, just go ahead, we are all behind you! :nrocks: :nrocks: :nrocks: :nrocks: :nrocks:

Nothing, from 06.30, to mid morning the past two days......  :bang:

Also, hanging several seconds while posting.  ::)

You're right Eric. This host is worse than the last one.......

Looking forward to happier times!

I've been unable to connect at all for the last 20 hours or so; it's only just come back from the cybervoid. Seems to me that the current server likes to take Sunday and part of Monday off -most of these downtimes seem to occur late in the weekend.

Poor Eric is probably pulling his last hairs out of his head over this. Time to vote with the pocket book as they say.
