Icon and logo wanted
« on: October 25, 2011, 10:36:19 AM »
So, With the new board, we need a few things to give us a more polished web presence. One is to replace the simple machines forum logo at the top right. The other is to create a small icon that you see in the tab of the browser...

How about a contest or volunteer?
Science is fun.

 :lol: You beat me to the suggestion Eric :lol:

How about letting members submit their suggestions in a thread for a certain cut-off date.  You then choose the top X (you're the boss :thumbup:)  and then have a poll ?

Do you perhaps have some guidelines for image size for the image to replace the SMF logo ? - and any other guidelines as to what you'd like for the picture to fit the MadModder image.

I wish I had an idea, but I'm not a very creative kind of person...

A lot of people post pictures of various projects. Throw one of those up with a different one every month. Somewhat like HMEM does for engines. A button to delete it from view would be useful too. It's a PITA to have to scroll down each time just to start reading what you want to.

Given the forum name, a clip from the film "Young Frankenstein" would be completely apropos!  :thumbup:

Eric,

I like that avatar. I've seen that somewhere before. Nice and steampunky.  :D

I was looking for something like that since it gives the impression of something that was Madmodded. I have three pictures that I snagged off the net. I don't know if they could be used becasue if copy right. They are from the South Bend company and one is from that Japanesse guy from Crab Fu. I've attached them to this post.

Something simple, like crossed ball peen hammer with visegrips and a roll of duct tape underneath with the name in a curve like smile under it all.  :clap:

If you're going to mention Duct Tape you have to mention Red Green. You can't have one without the other.  :lol: :lol:

What was the name of the machine that will generate really long, Almost lightning bolts of electricity in those old horror movies? All mad scientists had one of those. Ya gotta have gears too, Lot's of gears.

Great idea but it won't happen with copyright laws.

I am not sure about copyright issues, but I recall a setup of gears of all shapes and sizes that did turn very smoothly and nicely.  They were at the time the intro to an old technical program during the 1960s and -70s in Sweden.

Something like this:
http://svt.se/content/1/c6/52/56/30/teknisktmagasin_430.jpg
The text across was the title (in Swedish) of the TV program.

Gears would be nice  :thumbup: . Plain round ones can be pretty good, particularly if they rotate like here:

Talking of logos can anyone tell me what the squares of varying colours and numbers under the posters name represent?

Yellow = Member
Blue = Moderator
Red = Admin

The number is based on your "level" AKA 1 square 'newbie', 2 Squares 'JR Member'. And the only thing that counts for that level, is your post count.

He's lying to you.

Yellow is caution.  As in, don't listen to these guys, they're all full of bull sh baloney, and are not to be trusted.

Blue is cold, whether it's physical (must be on blood thinners), malfunctioning heating/cooling systems or just poor circulation is up for argument.

Red is really, really angry.   Look at his sig line, it spells it out right there.
