Clock or movement problem
« on: November 16, 2011, 04:09:04 PM »
Wife has a Seth Thomas wall clock battery movement hermle2215 pendulum Westminster chimes  Changed the batteries 2 C cells. First problem was I didn't use Dura cell brand seems that is the only only that works in these movements due to the way the contacts are made. The other brand batteries have plastic shrink wrap labeling over the bottoms of their brands. I checked and they really do interfere with contact.
well long story short.
I cleaned the contacts, and adjusted the angle so they gripped the cells tighter. Put new cells in and it won't operate properly. works for a while then slows up really bad. Chimes work all the switches work, chime choice 2 plus off, quarter or hour chime, plus the night chime, or off at night.
I have found one seller of the above Hermle 2215 movement $109.99 US she only paid $189.00 for the clock 10 years ago.
Any of you clockers have any hints or suggestions.
thanks  :dremel:

Glen, Go to this site (timesavers.com) using this link:

http://www.clock-keys.com/pdf/wholecatalog/Part-2.pdf

Scroll down to page 75 and look at Stk # 23562. It is the replacement for the Hermle 2215 and is priced at $54.50 plus shipping.

The movement came this evening, I put it in the case and started it up and now we are setting the loudness and the off time for overnight. Having a complete set of instructions for the movement sure helps take the guess work out of getting the chiming to shut off overnight.

Fast service, great prices and delivered what they advertised. Great place to deal with and I will be using them again.  :ddb:  :mmr:
