Casting pulley for my Gingery mill project
« on: December 03, 2011, 03:51:02 PM »
I cast a pulley for my Gingery mill project today and recorded the operation of my oil fired furnace. Have a look, it's noisy so be warned.

Nice furnace you got there. I've got a propane one. Haven't done anything with it in years. Was going to build the Gingery lathe and mill. Now I'm thinking I'd like to do the shaper.

BTW, that pulley turned out very nice.

Thanks guys. I skipped the shaper to do the mill but will probably do the shaper too. It's just too cool a machine.

Nicely done
Your furnace is running well on oil
Be much cheaper than my propane eater

Doubleboost,
All it costs me is the electricity to run the blower and air compressor. That's why I switched from propane to waste oil. It's a whole lot faster than propane too.

I use a Hybrid Burners foundry burner built by Rex Price, in the US, and it is reported to use maybe half the propane of other burners, since it seems to be optimized for maximum fuel efficiency.

Looks like a nice poor!
I've always wanted to give that a try but have not.
Looks like you have a pretty nice set up.

Bill I'm using a Nudge burner. You can find the instructions on it here;  http://www.alloyavenue.com/vb/showthread.php?2895-How-to-Build-a-Nudge-Burner&highlight=burner

No build post on the furnace since it's been evolving for the last 20 years.  I've been posting a build log here on the mill.

Thanks for the link, getting my shopping list for one.

Have just started a furnace build, the problem was the burner.  Thanks again Gadget.  :headbang:
