Hi guys, hope all has gone to plan over the last few days?

Just cause I have done them I've decided to post a couple of pic's from today...

The designs are getting smaller. The little one is only 30mm tall and 7.5mm diameter  :)

Well, that's it for now.

Probably going to make a few more before the break is over? But then also I might finally finish my rocking engine too.... Might?

Got them stuck in my head.... Decided to make them reality  :dremel:

Got two hugs off my mates wife 1am Xmas morning....  :ddb:  I think she really liked the 3 colour one from the Xmas eve post  :headbang:

Luckily her husband,(owner of the first triangular design) who's of a similar size to me was more self controlled and just thanked me

I played around with a piece of acrylic today. I need to make a tool and I'll show you what I'm working on. I've had something in mind. I just need to figure out how to machine it. I did make a knob for our crock pot out of the stuff. I was trying to flame polish it and got carried away  It nearly went up in flames. But the affect looks neat so I decided to use it. I'll start a new thread tomorrow(o; Keep up the good work Ralph.

Hey Ralph,

How do you shape the end where the ring goes through? Have you tried making form tools? They work great for aluminum and brass. I think it would save you some time. I'm going to make one for a couple of my doubles. I'll take some pictures if you like.

Wes,

To be perfectly honest I just make them all different. I turn the size down from the main dia till it looks about right.
Then use a file to shape the very end and a small round file or a rat tail file depending on the body size to blend the body to the end.

A lick with the old 400 grit emery to blend it all in and then brass polish on a rag to finish it. Since they are keyrings and are going to get abused in general life I figure it's not needed to go for the serious polished finish.

All that said, Form tooling would be a good topic to have in the tooling section

I'm sure there are plenty of people who will add to such a topic and plenty more that will happily learn from it.
You've made some cracking shapes up in the past..... Showing us exactly how it's done would be very good

Are they not shiny enough for you Roger?

I know..... But I just thought "cuts the job time down by 20mins and getting all the polishing goo out would be a bloody nightmare!"

Ok.... So I'm lazy! Tell me something they don't keep telling me! :med:   :)

Hi Peter,

E-blag! Simple answer.  "Acrylic tube" Sold in 500mm x5 lengths Bout 6 quid.  Little warning though.... One tube over half screwed, all disfigured and another all twisted.

Non there anywho, just looked.

found this though....

http://clearplastictube.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=35_68&product_id=270

Right size and not too expensive. Cost 48p +vat and 3 notes postage... Postage prob won't change too much if you order a few tubes.... Depends how much you want and what you call extortionate postage?

Got to show you... Just cause I like em  :)

That's a quid coin for reference.

  Very nice Ralph  :D :D

 How do you keep the colours seperate ? - or do you tamp down the powder tight enough that it won't mix later on ?

Thanks Arnold,

I've been using the tamping method.... But have found 2 of the early ones to be finding some "free space" I've got some 3mm acrylic rod coming to make little separators. Got to try these things

Peter, Glad to have helped

Pete found this link and posted it on the first page

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Glow-Dark-Powder-4-colours-total-40gs-/250836771133?pt=UK_Crafts_DrawingSupplies_EH&hash=item3a6709613d

Seems reasonable. Still don't know how much (weight wise) goes into one of these.... But it really is a tiny amount... I've a feeling that should be loads, and a whole extra colour to mine!

Looking forward to someone else posting a piccy of their version  :ddb:

Glowing tackle!!

There was a film out years ago with that as the theme "skin deep" tag line... "the comedy that glows in the dark"

I used to watch such asterisk!  :palm:

Nice find Pete

Now, since I'm on here... Just finished editing and uploading some videos of these being made.

After near 18hrs editing and then 15hrs to upload you'd best all be nice!  :ddb:

I had a go at a couple of these over the weekend.....currently now the proud owner of two very bent and twisted bits of brass as the 1st one I got the machining order wrong and the second one I accidentally went it too heavy with the mill......might post up some pics of the scrap metal at some point, maybe once I have successfully completed one, just to prove to myself that I can do it, so close twice, lol....  :)
very new to all this....

Steves, Sounds like a few valuable lessons learned! We've all done it.... Usually with a few heart stopping moments involved too! :bugeye:

Hey Ralph, the heart stopping moment wasn't funny, the mill locked up and even after turning the dial back to zero I could hear the head still trying to turn, nearly pooped myself....lol  :bugeye:

As you say, lessons being learnt and thats what its all about for me at the moment. Not done much on the mill to date, so thought this would be a good learning curve, its even better than I thought, lol
very new to all this....
