Little Semi Quickie
« on: January 18, 2009, 07:11:50 AM »
Working on a small part for the car occupying my garage that isnt mine.

Im making a fuel buss of sorts.

Basically it has two hard lines coming into it, via AN fittings.
THe buss attaches to the frame rail up near the engine.
Two AN fittings on the other side of it will have the stainless flex fuel lines running away from it to the fuel rails.
There will also be a tap for a pressure sensor.

I am half asleep.. Ok 3/4 asleep, so forgive me if this is a messy post. I will clean up after I get up later today.

Here come the pictures.

Chunk of aluminum with Crap o Mill work to make a manifold adapter I never bothered with... and used the metal for other projects.

What it will sorta look like.

Here are a couple more pics.
I took these a few ago, when taking pics of the outside of the garage.

THis is the part roughed in.
I still need to get the pressure isolator for fuel pressure...
And it will be smaller as I remove the metal that shouldnt be there. :P

Spin,

Your job proves that having a bit of machinery around the place allows you to knock up those special little bits.

Nice job and well done.

Had some time today to work on this thing after tramming the head of the mill.

Removed material that didnt belong.. and squared surfaces some. Getting it pared down.
Thing is.. Im trying to get my brain around... what I need to remove to make the part look like I want. I spose a good machinist makes only a few passes to make the part, instead of 234239408 passes, trying to figure how to get down to the end result.

How wrong you are.

I think most of the machinists on here who make one offs would do exactly as you have done.

Whittle it away until it looks right.

There is a big difference between making something that does the job, and one that does the job, but looks right as well.

Nice one.

That's looking like a nice piece of sculptured metal Spin....
You will find it a distinct help… if you know and look as if you know what you are doing. (IRS training manual)

That`s very nice!

I must get myself a mill.......   ::)

Still drilling holes... Sometimes, in the right place!

Still modifying bits of metal... Occasionally, making an improvement!

Looking good. If I made one that looked that good I'd stop while I was ahead and just set it up to admire.

He he he Thanks all :)

It is actually sitting here on my desk.. and I see where there is metal I dont like.. but I have to keep remembering it needs to be durable and strong, as it will be under a car, up by the frame rail, and likely never seen by human eyes...

But I know its there.

Sooooo  :headbang:

I will fit it this weekend and see how things look, and make adjustments as needed :P
