Another Noob
« on: January 11, 2012, 07:00:15 PM »
Hi Guys!
Eric helped me register so I finally get to introduce myself. Rob over at MachinistBlog suggested I join you guys and I finally got over here.

I'm now a retired guy from Hawaii, a condition that I highly recommend - retiring AND living in Hawaii. I have owned a Sherline lathe and mill for about 17 years or so. I enjoy making scrap with my machines, Olympic recurve archery, sportbikes, welding, woodworking, car audio, photography and restoring Tru-Cut mowers (yeah, I know, that one's weird). I also enjoy writing now that I have time to do it - Rob at MachinistBlog has been kind enough to publish a few.

I look forward to learning and sharing with you guys. I'm not a prolific poster but who knows, maybe I'll do a few if I think something I make is worthy.

Hiya Mikey

Welcome to the collective :borg:

Sounds like you got a nice range of interests. Lets talk bikes. What kind of sportbikes?

Eric

Hi and welcome to MadModdder. Hawaii eh. That sounds like a pretty good place to be this time of year. It hasn't been too bad here yet for snow and cold. One of these days Mother Nature is going to remember that it is winter and really dump on us with the cold and snow.

Nothing wrong with restoring mowers as long as you enjoy it. Up here it's mowers and snow blowers.

Perhaps as you get the time you could post up a link to some of your writings. I am sure sure some of the members would be interested in having a look.

We look forward to your participation in the various forms.
   :D :)

Cheers

Thanks, Guys!
I own a Gen 2 SV650S and my son has a GSXR 750. Seems like I make the tools and he gets to use them! I've been riding for only 5 years this time but used to ride an old rigid frame panhead Harley back in the day. The world looks better leaned over, doesn't it?

I enjoy writing but I admit that I suck at it. I did a piece on Albrecht chucks, one on grinding lathe tools and a few others. I've learned so much from others on the net and I'm trying to pay it back while my brain still functions.

Looking forward to being a member here, and thanks for the welcome.

Never had an SV or a GSXR... Ridden quite a few though. Last bike was a TLR (running) though I have an off/on project of stuffing a RZ350 ypvs engine into a Hawk GT frame.

TL1000R - the baddest V-twin Suzuki made. Nice bike, Eric. I've never ridden one but the GSXR 750 was the replacement in Superbike and that bike is awesome above 10K RPM. It's too bad the track closed here in Hawaii - I would have liked to see one run.

I don't know much about the RZ350, other than its a 2-stroke Yamaha that Kenny Roberts promoted/rode? There used to be one screaming around a twisty here, which is why I heard of it, but don't know much more about it. Love to see a pic when you're done.
