New project??
« on: January 30, 2009, 08:27:09 PM »
So I was watching Treasure Quest on discovery. I have an interest in the underwater stuff. Been that way for a long time... got certified as a diver when I was 15. Anyway, they use a ROV (remote operated Vehicle) for some of their exploration of the deep.

Do you see where this going?

 :proj:

So I started thinking and researching. There are quite a few modders making these out in the world. Check this ONE out.

I think I see a new project coming up.

Too small.  Think bigger!  Like, a full size mini sub.  You can take pics through the porthole.   :D

So many people out there making such cool stuff.  I remember seeing a website where the guy was making a scale WWII german sub.  Welded steel, the thing was supposed to be nearly as capable as the real thing - minus the torpedos, of course.

I've also seen sites of mini subs where you wear full scuba gear, but sit in a little bubble.

Anyway, be sure to post pics if you ever do make something!

I have seen that sub before. It is actually huge for DIY. I do have an interest in building something along those lines. If you see some of my pasts posts I have talked about doing an underwater scooter type of thing.

Eric

The link for the sub you were talking about is down. When it comes back up, I will post the link.

On occasion I amuse myself with imagineerings of propeller driven toys... It is very, very satisfying to have all the tools and skills to build anything that can be imagined - anything that can be completed in the time available and within a reasonable budget... I do my best to encourage folks to invest in tools and get into the machineshop/fabrication hobby.. I dont believe there is anything that quite compares......
.
I too would like to see somebody build a remotely operated vehicle..
I am not actually retired ,I merely find myself disabled by an intolerance for productive activity.
