Never mind, John. I'll be near Bordeaux, and will think of you all in that crowded cafe at the show as I quaff my lunchtime glass of the 2009 or 2010 (both excellent vintages) on the terrace...

I am coming over as well. It would be great to meet some of you blokes and put faces to names (and aliases).

How will I know you (except for John Stevenson who will be locked to the CNC)?

I will be wandering around with one of my business cards pinned on. It shows my ugly mug as per the avatar and my name. Please make yourself known to me if you see a jetlagged old bloke looking overwhelmed or hungover or both.

I will definitely be there on Saturday with John Somers and will try to make it on Friday as well although there is a lot to see and we have to make it to the National Rail Museum etc.

Jim Greethead

BTW Are any of you coming from Arc Eurotrade and if so, could you bring a couple of arbors to save me the trip to the store?

Hi Peter,

No, not to Harrogate. I did make it to Bristol a couple of years ago  and enjoyed that.

We only have one show here each year and that alternates between Bendigo and Melbourne so I was interested to compare it with Bristol (much the same). I probably don't have too many more trips of this duration left in me and I have a few friends over your way so I thought I would come over, have a look at Harrogate and meet a few people.

It is a big trip starting in Glasgow and finishing 3 weeks later in Amsterdam doing the boys techie tour with another mature member of the fringe fraternity so we won't be standing still for too long.

John already has the tickets for Saturday so that is on for sure. Friday is a maybe. But since we are booked in overnight in Wetherby and have to get to Leamington Spa for the National Vintage Communications Fair on Sunday, we will be busy little people.

Packing has started. We leave next Sunday so next week is the week for all the last minute things. I am looking forward to it.

Jim

I'm going to be in the minority I assure you. I've seen one other who looks my size and colour in the 3 shows I've attended.  But he was about 20... I'm 37!
Trust me, I stand out from a crowd!  :)

I've got a slight transport problem.......

Packed and ready to go tomorrow, is a dc motor. Planned to be handed to it's new owner at the show.

Unfortunately, the Newcastle contingent are not attending this year!

Is anyone from north of Harrogate, willing to transport it on it's way, further north?

Took my grandad with me today so didn`t end up meeting with you guys. He really enjoyed it, as did I. Here are some photos he took:

Then I was blown away with the chain driven clock - spoke for a good hour with the builder and hopefully it will be being built as a build log on here before Christmas... lots of projects to finish first! I took these:

Nice to meet/chat with you guys

Then spent a few hours looking for some cash I thought I had?
If anyone is going tomorrow could they check the floor... I seem to have lost a few hundred quid!

Found some interesting tooling though. So it's probably going to be ok!?  :dremel:  :ddb:  :)

Divided he ad, HS93, StillDrillin, AussieJimG, Craynerd, John S.

It was nice to meet you today and to put faces to a few names.

I only took any photos of an ME Petrol powered roller - I acquired a part finished one about 30 years ago and this was the first time I've seen a nicely finished one.

There didn't seem to be quite as many trade stalls this year and the lighting in the main trade area was apalling. I went out to the car in bright sunshine to get my sandwiches and when I came back in I couldn't see anything for several minutes - it was so dark.

Despite not having anything on my shopping list I left with a much lighter wallet than I left home with!

Hi Ralph,

Not a bad idea. I'm not too worried about authenticity. I had a chat with a guy on the OLCO (Old Locomotive Committee) stand and I'm sure he showed me a picture which showed that Lion had been retyred and the tyres were bolted to the rim. Under some black paint no-one (but me and you) would know the truth!

I haven't seen the Reeves castings for the wheels yet - if they don't look that good I may have to make them. I'd love to have a go at casting and could easily CNC the patterns but there are only so many hours in the day etc. etc.

Nothing good on TV tonight so we're going to watch a DVD of The Titfield Thunderbolt (they used Lion in the film) - I haven't seen it for 40+ years.

Damn, I really must try to make it over there next year. This year, I were mostly welding angle iron to my bus... whilst attempting not to set it on fire.

Great pics, Peter, if you want to change the angle, maybe you should mad-mod one of those litter picker arms to hold your camera, squeeze the trigger to take a snap.... you'll get a whole new perspective on things  but the ones I expanded looked great - the Evening Star loco looks fabulous.
Cheers!
Ade.

Those pics were lost somwhere in PC. I looked for them loads of times without success. Must admit when you zoom in on them the detail is amazing.

Peter, you are a legend!! All those photos to fill in the gaps where I forgot to take any. Thanks

And as for the rest of you, it was great to meet you and to put faces to atavars. It makes the whole thing much more  personal and enjoyable.

But did nobody think to to take a photo of the group?  :bang:

I must apologies if I don't rember people I spoke to as some may have noticed I am a bit low down (some call me a low down B*m) and head is stuck in one position fortunately looking down or I would have to have my lathe on the ceiling and the swarf would get in my eyes , anyway I tend not to see much of peoples faces just there zips so can tell who pees down the trousers, so If I don't rember you I apologies I know I spoke to Jim at length and David and who could miss Ralph he stands out in a crowd with his glowing earrings he has made in muilty colors plus the disco ball Oh and he is very tall, I had met John Millwright before and I must apologies for not recognizing you as well, Phil I don't think I had met before and he is close to me and can use CNC (lock your doors), talking of CNC I met everyone's Nightmare Mr. Stephens who I remberd after being introduced by Keyton of ARC, one of the nicest traders about (apologies if I have got the name wrong ) John is much nicer in person and nothing like what Rob Wilson makes him out to be.
so anyway thank you all for turning up is was the best part of the show for me and now you know why if I don't say hello it is not me being rude I just cannot see your face sometimes.

Durham is where the 'Laidly Worm' came from.  Legend claims that Young Lambton cut it in three halves!

Now't that us Durham lads cannot do.
